Summary

Gavin Guile is dying. He'd thought he had five years left - now he's got less than one. With 50,000 refugees, a bastard son, and an ex-fiancée who may have learned his darkest secret, Gavin's got problems on every side.

As he loses control of his magic, all magic is running wild, threatening to destroy the Seven Satrapies. The old gods are being reborn. Their army of color wights is unstoppable, and the only salvation may be the brother whose freedom and life Gavin stole 16 years ago.

Critic reviews

“Epic fantasy at its best . . . I was hooked in from the first page and couldn't put it down, even at the last. It is, quite frankly, superb.” ( Sci-Fi London)
“Weeks manages to ring new tunes on...old bells, letting a deep background slowly reveal its secrets and presenting his characters in a realistically flawed and human way.” ( Publishers Weekly)
“Weeks has written an epic fantasy unlike any of its contemporaries. It is a truly visionary and original work, and has set the bar high for others in its subgenre.” (graspingforthewind.com)

Best magician series you can read

The best series you can read, read excellently, I can't believe how good they are.

just awesome

Better than the first and I can't wait to get onto the third. The magic system is amazing, the characters are deep and flawed. Brilliant and intelligent, I really enjoyed it

Gripping

It's unusual I'll want to listen to an audiobook outside of long journeys, but this has held me entranced for days.

The narrator is also significantly better than the pretty awfully chosen surfer-dude-esque guy who did the previous book.

As good as the first and I can't stop here...

It is very rare that a sequel is as good as the first book but Brent keeps the pace going.. Kip is a very relatable fat hero. I wasn't a fan of Brent upping the profanity in this book but it is bearable and from his third book it does look like this will continue. Rarely do I listen to books in a series back to back but I can't help myself with the lightbringer series.

Very entertaining

This book is very entertaining and I could not stop until I had read the whole book. I loved the mix of characters and the plot of the book. You can listen to the book whilst basking in the sun in the park or whilst taking a walk. Absolutely beautiful.

everyone but the old man

ok "spoiler alert"!!!
I loved the tale, the characters, the narrator, all of it , right up until kip stabbed the red white (trying to keep it unspoilerish as much as possible) the blade had taken blue, green, red, helped kill a god and taken all of the prism's colours, so why is it that the old man not only doesn't lose his colours, but he actually gets his halo healed???
you can actually feel Brent grinding the gears of the story trying to ram it into the direction he wants it to go in, but it wrecks any suspension of belief when he breaks his own rules and to do it to the most un deserved character in the book really topped it off for me.
NOT HAPPY!
