About this listen

The Black Moon is the fifth novel in Winston Graham's sweeping series of Cornwall, Poldark.

Cornwall, 1794. The birth of a son to Elizabeth and George Warleggan serves only to accentuate the rift between the Poldark and Warleggan families. And when Morwenna Chynoweth, now governess to Elizabeth's eldest son, grows to love Drake Carne, Demelza's brother, the enduring rivalry between George and Ross finds a new focus for bitter enmity and conflict.

Excellent in every way

Oliver Hembrugh narrates these books so brilliantly. He sounds so much like Aiden Turner (Ross Poldark) that he completely painted images in my mind. Even the female roles were believable. The novels are, of course, incredible. I’ve listened to them all so many times & I never tire of them. Incredible

Fantastic as always

Super story as always and Oliver is a great reader but he should take advice from a native Frenchie for pronunciation! Never mind that though, it's nothing compared with his great reading of a brilliant story

Inspiring an interest in European History

Another gripping Poldark novel, retold through great narration.

As the series moved on, the historic, social, cultural and political backdrop becomes increasingly enriched. I've found myself checking out multiple threads from the story line; e.g Pitt, Wilberforce, the French Revolution, Napoleon (The Four Swans), the history of currency (The Four Swans - introduction of paper currency) etc. The series is proving to be a rounded educational stimulus as well as a darned good dramatic romp!

Poldark's story

Where does The Black Moon rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I've listened to the previous books in the series and enjoyed them all. This book was equally as good.

Any additional comments?

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good old fashioned Cornish tale

Gripping and very interesting

I very much enjoyed this book like the others in the series. The details, the descriptive and the gentle pace of the story.

Marvellous Poldark Saga

Is there nothing Winston Graham can't do? I'm just about to start on Book 6 of this saga from Audible (I read most of the Poldark books years ago) and can't wait! His characters are so human, believable, wonderful, fallible and, in some cases, horrible, it's a joy to meet them and discover what they'll do next. They've never let me down yet!
