About this listen

The abridged, downloadable audiobook edition of Johnnie Walker's fantastic autobiography, read by the man himself.

Johnnie Walker is an inspiration. One of the best-known and most beloved broadcasters in Britain, the charismatic BBC Radio 2 Drivetime DJ has achieved legendary status with a hugely loyal following thanks to his tireless pioneering of new music, his warm and passionate personality and his soothing voice. Having thrown away the rule book as a teenager, Johnnie has always made decisions from the heart. As a result, he has had a brilliantly colourful life, with more ups and downs than a rollercoaster ride. In this memoir, he reveals all about his time with Radio Caroline, his drug addiction, his fight against cancer and his spiritual awakening. Honest, passionate and humorous, his autobiography will provide inspiring and entertaining listening to his millions of fans.

A Must Listen! A Riveting Listen!

Johnnie Walker's writing style is just like his programmes - absorbing and as though he is the room with you telling his story! Cup of tea before you start?
Once the button on the iPod or the laptop was pressed, I could not stop listening.
How his name change occurred is nowhere near how I, and probably many others imagine why it was changed or why the name was chosen!
The events of pirate ship broadcasting put that time into order and sequence. Johnnie Walker's humour makes it all seem like a walk in the park and makes me wonder why I was not there to be in on the fun! His story brought back many wonderful memories of that era.
He and his wife's account of his battle with cancer was factual and makes clear the agonies of battling cancer for both the patient and the carer and all involved with that person's illness. My tears flowed. The actions and emotions of a cancer patient are very different to that of family and friends. I thought it was very clever and sensible to have his wife write and narrate the events of their terrible time. She portrays the fears, horrors and waiting of what this terrible disease does to a person. How they supported each other through it all; how his strength got him through some very gruelling times to get to the other side. Her love and care was with him through it all. How fortunate they are to be together. Some things are meant to be and in this case they are definitely meant to be together. What a warm and happy home they must have.
Many of us supported Johnnie through his ordeal when suspended from "Drive Time" and it was excellent to hear the full account of the situation, so clearly put forward.
Thank God we still have Johnnie Walker to listen to on a Sunday and I hope that for a long time yet his dulcet tones, easiness, interesting people and topics and his humour will be heard on the airwaves for many years to come.

very truthful and moving

I really enjoyed listening to JW reading his book. I have been listening to him for many years on the radio and find his dulcet tones very relaxing.
I didn't really know anything about his life and was really surprised to find out how many hoops he had to jump and difficulties he had to overcome to get to where he is now.
I really admire his tenacity and determination to follow the path he had chosen to lead despite the hardships.
He was very lucky to find Tiggie at that time of his life and it is wonderful to see such a powerful example of real love ❤️

Candid, Interesting & Humbling

If you've ever listened to JW on the radio over any substantial period of time then you'll probably have an affection for him. Listening to this audiobook will only broaden that affection.
His account of his early days at Radio London & Radio Caroline through to his years at Radio's 1 & 2 are very interesting indeed. His(and his wife's) account of his illness and their fight to overcome it are candid, humbling and rewarding to the listener.

Listening to Johnnie tell his own story is something that I personally prefer over reading the book.

All in all, you realise that you were right all along about Johnnie Walker. He's the real deal!
