About this listen

It's 1977 and Jack Sheffield is appointed headmaster of a small village primary school in North Yorkshire. So begins Jack's eventful journey through the school year and his attempts to overcome the many problems that face him as a young and inexperienced headmaster. The many colourful characters include Ruby, the 20-stone caretaker with an acute spelling problem; a secretary who worships Margaret Thatcher; a villager who grows giant carrots; a barmaid/parent who requests sex lessons, and a five-year-old boy whose language is colourful in the extreme. And then there's also beautiful, bright Beth Henderson, who is irresistibly attractive to the young headmaster....

Warm, funny and nostalgic, Teacher, Teacher

is a delightful read that is guaranteed to make you feel better, whatever kind of day you've had.

A very gentle book

It was a pleasant but rather bland book, not much story but nice gentle 'background listening' while I was busy with other things. The narration was a bit irritating, too deliberate and expressionless but the book does have a quiet charm and I don't regret buying it, I may even listen to it again at some point in the future.

Light hearted and easy listen

It took a while to get used to the narrator and at some points he lacked a bit of expression. However, still turned out to be an enjoyable listen. The story is pleasant but uneventful.

Fabulous from start to end

It was that good I felt I was there! Brilliant stories and it all flows so well.

I only wish my head teacher was like that when I attended school?

I have now got the list of Jack's teacher teacher books as I am hooked.

Absolutely brilliant narrative skills, has the reader hanging for more.

So happy I found this on audible.

Thank you Jack.

Lighthearted easy listen. My comfort blanket book

The story is so gentle and lovely. A proper light hearted listen, not just claiming to be one. I enjoy the story. The narrator is very monotone and inexpressive, which annoyed me when I was listening to it during the day and concentrating solely on it. However, switched to listening to it when I go to bed at night and it’s utterly perfect for listening to then and drifting off to. No sudden noises, dramatic moments, dramatic speech or sounds, or stressful storylines. I have no idea how many times I have now listened to this book, it’s my comfort blanket! I could probably quote most of it…

Dull dull dull

This could have been a good book but for the mindblowingly boring narration. Really odd because as it was narrated by the author you would think he of all people would know where to put intonation but there was none- - he might as well have been reading the phone directory. Returned this one and won't be buying any more audiobooks in the series - might give the written ones a try just to see if they come across better in that format
