Summary

Nobody knows who Miss Rose Sweetly is, and she prefers it that way. She’s a shy, mathematically-minded shopkeeper’s daughter who dreams of the stars. Women like her only ever come to attention through scandal. She’ll take obscurity, thank you very much.

All of England knows who Stephen Shaughnessy is. He’s an infamous advice columnist and a known rake. When he moves into the house next door to Rose, she discovers that he’s also wickedly funny, devilishly flirtatious, and heart-stoppingly handsome. But when he takes an interest in her mathematical work, she realizes that Mr. Shaughnessy isn’t just a scandal waiting to happen. He’s waiting to happen to her…and if she’s not careful, she’ll give in to certain ruination.

Novella, no complete novel

Is there anything you would change about this book?

It should be much longer.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

I wanted to have some thing a little better resolved.

What about Rosalyn Landor’s performance did you like?

As always she did a fantastic job, gave the characters a voice each, a joy to listen to.

Did Talk Sweetly to Me inspire you to do anything?

Yes, not buy so short books any more.

Any additional comments?

Audible should charge less for novellas. The credit system should take the time a book runs into account.

Good story but major flaw

I really wanted to give this story a higher rating.

This was my first Courtney Milan novel and I really love what she is trying to do with diversity/ inclusion. The novella is about Miss Rose Sweetly, who is intelligent, great at maths and falls in love with a known rake - Stephen Shaughnessy. He is an advice columnist and recently moved next door to Rose, he pursues her relentlessly and is very confident in his love for her. It is a beautiful romance, they have obstacles to overcome in their interracial relationship, which they manage to figure out. A very emotional and moving novella.

The only issue is that I found the religious settings for one of the earlier love scenes in the book really inappropriate and it just spoilt it for me.
