Summary
Brought to you by Penguin.
Bono—artist, activist and the lead singer of Irish rock band U2—has written a memoir: honest and irreverent, intimate and profound, Surrender is the story of the remarkable life he’s lived, the challenges he’s faced and the friends and family who have shaped and sustained him.
Narrated by the author, Surrender is an intimate, immersive listening experience, telling stories from Bono’s early days in Dublin, to joining a band and playing sold out stadiums around the world with U2, plus his more than 20 years of activism.
Throughout a remarkable life, music has always been a constant for Bono and in the audiobook, his distinctive voice is interwoven with a very personal soundtrack adding atmosphere and texture to each and every scene. From moments of classic U2 hits to snippets by The Clash, Patti Smith, Verdi, Johnny Cash and Mozart, Surrender also exclusively features clips of newly recorded reimagined versions of U2 songs including ‘Sunday Bloody Sunday’, ‘With Or Without You’, ‘One’, ‘Beautiful Day’ and more, glimpsed for the first time on Surrender: 40 Songs, One Story.
As one of the music world’s most iconic artists and the cofounder of organizations ONE and (RED), Bono’s career has been written about extensively. But in Surrender, it’s Bono who picks up the pen, writing for the first time about his remarkable life and those he has shared it with. In his unique voice, Bono takes us from his early days growing up in Dublin, including the sudden loss of his mother when he was 14, to U2’s unlikely journey to become one of the world’s most influential rock bands, to his more than 20 years of activism dedicated to the fight against AIDS and extreme poverty. Writing with candor, self-reflection, and humor, Bono opens the aperture on his life—and the family, friends and faith that have sustained, challenged and shaped him.
Surrender’s subtitle, '40 Songs, One Story,' is a nod to the book’s 40 chapters, which are each named after a U2 song.

Revelatory
Beautifully written with an honesty which is rare. Bono has taken a pin and burst my wrong opinion that he would be an egotistical rock star. Only He could narrate this. Funny, emotional, witty and sprinkled with music this is worth a listen and parting with your hard earned cash in these straitened times.

Great
I'm only on chapter 7 but so far I'm really enjoying this. Nearly as good as dave grohls audio book and maybe by the time I finish it, it will be better. Hopefully a new album and tour will be coming soon 😁

A history of U2 that is both very personal and interesting
A fascinating look into the life of Paul Hewson and the band that is U2. Starting from the before the concept of the band even existed, this audio book, expertly read by Bono himself, takes you on the life journey of a boy that became a worldwide superstar. The struggles, both personal and as a band are laid bear in this honest and thoughtful account of times growing up as a young boy, finding love, fame and fortune, travelling the world and using that fame to make a difference in the world for those less fortunate than him or me. I have thoroughly enjoy my walks with dog and with Bono in my ears. I will miss out walks together for now, but I will visit you again sometime soon.

Brilliant Bono at his Best!
This production surpassed all expectations and sets the bar high for those who dare to follow the pack.
Poetic, pulsating and packed with songs, sounds and sincere murmurings.
Read by Bono who recalls memories and musings carried by his distinct dialect with a deft dosing of humour and hallelujah!
Zab!

A rewarding listen
Moving, revealing - Bono is not afraid to laugh at himself - a must for old (or young) U2 fans

A Whole New Level of Awesome 😎
Love, Love, Love, I feel as if I've just read the bible, just like the live Bono No Surrender show, Mind Blown. The words in this Awesome book are something Shakespeare would be proud of. Stop reading what ever you are and pick up this book and start the journey of Love, Life, Family, Friendship and Hope. This Legend has lived and we can now experience his life like no other, in this book. High lights ? Yes, the first page till the last.

Legend
I first heard U2 in 1984 at a band rehearsal, I first saw them on The Tube, live at Red Rocks, I was blown away, I was 16, the very next day I went to Woolworths and bought the Album! I was a singer at 16 and in a band & Bono and his mates were my hero’s, the first after my great love The Beatles, This book and I’ve listened to a few is an addictive listen, Bono as always has his emotions on 11 and reads with conviction, passion, humour & love, I’m reminded of my life through the 80’s 90’s etc in parallel, I’m writing this review and I ain’t even half way!
