About this listen
A year has passed since the Mayhem Wave reshaped the world, erasing most of its population and replacing civilization with random artifacts of advanced technology and magic. Harrison Cody now works as a special agent for the government of New Chicago, taking advantage of his newfound ability to open any lock. When an expedition is launched to determine the origin of the Mayhem Wave, Harrison joins them.
In their travels, they learn of other nations that have arisen in the ashes of the old world, not all of them friendly. They find the ruins of a once-great city and the possible source of the wave, the work of a man acting alone with uncertain motives.
The truth of their quest lies in an enemy of unfathomable power whose plans for the Earth and its people are not yet complete. Harrison may have the answer to preventing the carnage to come, but the solution will come with a sacrifice too great for him to withstand.

A great second part to this series
I’ve either got used to the narrator (at 1.1x speed) or she’s got better, because I wasn’t distracted by the telling of this great story this time. It’s offbeat, a bit bonkers and funny in places - less so, I thought than no. 1. I did lose bits of the story when I was focused on something else occasionally as the plot is a lot more complex and involved than the previous book, but I rewound when I was able to do so. Otherwise I would catch up OK, maybe not understanding the full hows and whys though. It doesn’t matter with this book though. Just suspend disbelief and take it at face value.

I couldn’t even make it to the end
I struggled with with the first book but persevered but I couldn’t make it to the end of this one the narrator is so wooden I couldn’t like any of the characters apart from Harrison. Nothing seems to happen in the story maybe the wooden narrative distracts from that story but it was just hard work
