About this listen

Fiona doesn't remember going to sleep. But when she opens her eyes, she discovers her entire world has been altered - her house is abandoned and broken, and the entire neighborhood is barren and dead. Even stranger is the tattoo on her right wrist - a black oval with five marks on either side - that she doesn't remember getting but somehow knows she must cover at any cost.

And she's right.

When the honeybee population collapsed, a worldwide pandemic occurred and the government tried to bio-engineer a cure. Only the solution was deadlier than the original problem - the vaccination turned people into ferocious, deadly beasts who were branded as a warning to unvaccinated survivors. Key people needed to rebuild society are protected from disease and beasts inside a fortress-like wall. But Fiona has awakened branded, alone - and on the wrong side of the wall.

Lovely story!

Enjoyed every moment of it and sad it wasn’t quite long enough. A sequel would be nice.

Fast paced, unpredictable, heartfelt

Stung" by Bethany Wiggins catapults readers into a world where waking up is just the beginning of a harrowing journey. Fiona blinks awake to a scene straight out of a nightmare. Her familiar home has transformed into a dilapidated shell, and the once-thriving neighborhood lies desolate. As if that weren't perplexing enough, an enigmatic tattoo etched on her hand demands secrecy at any cost.

Enter the aftermath of a global catastrophe triggered by the collapse of the honeybee population. A desperate attempt by the government to engineer a cure spirals into a calamity worse than the original problem. Vaccination turns individuals into savage creatures, marked as a warning to those untouched by the remedy.

Within fortress-like walls, vital figures essential for society's revival are shielded from the disease-ridden horrors outside. But Fiona wakes up branded, stranded, and on the wrong side of the wall. What sets this narrative apart is its breakneck pace, relentlessly propelling readers forward. Even the introspective moments seamlessly weave into the plot's unfolding drama.

The dystopian landscape is a tapestry of diverse scenarios, each distinct despite being ensnared within the same grim environment. Whether navigating through putrid sewers or confronting the unknown of crashed out buildings, the story maintains an engaging momentum. Amidst the chaos, the tender yet fervent connection between Fiona and Drayden adds a touch of youthful passion. It's not an overheated romance but rather a heartfelt portrayal of affection amid turmoil, lending depth to the narrative. And there's a sequel novel that I'm eagerly gearing up to immerse myself in to continue this adrenaline-pumping adventure.

Don’t understand the negative reviews!

I listen to a lot of books and, before my eyes deteriorated and I discovered Audible, was an avid reader - I really enjoyed this story and the narration was great! Action right from the start and a dystopian future story to rival some of the movies of recent years. Thoroughly enjoyed this one (and I’m not a kid either!)

Excellent from start to finish

From the narration to the story, this book is brilliant. It may be aimed at teens… but I’m 49 years young and really enjoyed it x

Great story but narration was an odd choice

This novel is written from the point of view of a 17-year-old female so it lost quite a bit of its authenticity through the use of what sounds like a middle-aged robot for narration. I don’t understand why you wouldn’t choose someone who fits the description of the main character to perform it.

However. I really liked the story and how several different themes converged, and it was worth persevering with. A great offer from the plus catalogue (and the sequel is also worth a listen)
