Summary
Harold Pierce didn't mean to kill his baby brother all those years ago. He didn't intend to incinerate him in a fire but he did and he has spent most of his adult life in a psychiatric hospital because of that. Upon release he is given a job as a hospital porter but that job involves the burning of aborted foetuses and the memories of what happened to his brother begin to torment Harold.
In the small town where he lives the terror is mounting because of the escape from prison of psychopath Paul Harvey. Within days of his escape a horrifying series of murders begins but there is much worse to come. Pierce and Harvey, both disturbed and guarding terrible secrets, are about to unleash a terror beyond belief....
Shaun Hutson is one of the UK's best-known horror writers and author of over 50 books. He made his name with best-sellers such as Spawn and Relics - acquiring the nicknames 'The Godfather of Gore' and 'The Shakespeare of Gore' in the process - and has since written a number of dark urban thrillers as well. He has also written for radio, magazines, television and novelized a couple of Hammer Horror films.

British Horror Gore
"Shaun Hutson was a part of the British horror movement of the late 1970's and early 1980's (still working today). known for his gruesome stories, "Spawn" is a particularly gory example of his work. A mix of horror and the crime genres. Its the tale of an escaped murderer, a former resident of a mental institution, a policeman and and a beautiful female doctors merged destinys. A destiny which will end in violence and much blood. Well narrated by Kobna Holdbrooke-Smith, I look forward to reading more of Shaun Hutson's work in the future.

Disturbing But So Good
I'd forgotten how immersive, powerful and down right brilliant Shaun Hutson is. I started reading his books about 20yrs ago when my sister and I would swap eachothers books - hers James Herbert mine Shaun Hudson. This book had me from the start. Excellent characters in a truely disturbing story.

One of Shaun’s more disturbing books
I’ve read many Shaun Hutson books and I love his style of writing and story telling. This book has been the one that has disturbed me the most to date. I genuinely felt upset at what I was reading at some points which is an unfamiliar feeling for me, and is a tester to Shaun’s emotive writing. Absolutely addictive and disturbing from start to finish!

Not one of the best
Narrator didn't help this very slow moving horror. The story didn't really get moving until the last 2 hours by which time it was all too obvious. A shame as Erebus was fantastic
