About this listen

Louise gets a frantic call to take in a damaged and destructive young girl. Separated from her siblings, Sparkle is hostile and angry.

A short while after settling in, Sparkle begins to identify as pansexual. A revolution is underway in the Allen household, with Sparkle's transition motivating all of the young people to explore what becoming an adult means for them.

But it's Sparkle's escalating behaviour that causes concern.

Discovering a dark fact about Sparkle's birth and the shocking events that the children in her house were part of, Louise is desperate for more help--and not just for the child in her care. As Sparkle's erratic and violent behaviour increases, Louise finds herself and her home life under serious threat.

Love it

Another great book. I enjoy the style of writing as it can be humorous, but also brutally honest

THIS SPARKLE DIDN'T COME WITH FAIRY DUST

WOW WHAT A TOPIC FOR THE FAMILY TO HAVE TO DEAL WITH NO SPOILERS FANTASTIC LISTEN AND I COULD VERY MUCH RELATE TO CERTAIN PATRS OF THE STORY DUE TO A TEENAGE GRANDDAUGHTER STARTING HIGH SCHOOL AS A FAMILY WHAT THE LOUISE LLOYD VINCENT JACKSON AND LILLIE WENT THROUGH WAS AN EMOTIONAL ROLLERCOASTER TO SAY MUCH MORE ABOUT SPARKLE AND THE STORY WOULD SPOIL IT FOR OTHERS BUT IT IS FANTASTIC HEART WRENCHING MAKES YOU FURIOUS ONE OF LOUISE'S BEST I THINK BECAUSE OF THE SUBJECT MATTER WHICH I HOLD MY OWN VIEWS ON AS WELL AS THE SYSTEM. THANK YOU LOUISE ALLEN FOR ANOTHER INSIGHT INTO THE TRUE WORLD OF FOSTERING AND ALL IT BRINGS WITH IT YOU AND YOUR FAMILY ARE COMPLETE STARS 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Another great book

Well written and I loved the humour in this one made me giggle a few times. But also loved the story and the struggle of understanding the lgbtq+ community.

Eye opening

Enjoyed the true nitty gritty of life as a foster caregiver. The unknowing of what we are meant to do or where to go.
The being let down by the system and where it fails.
Bitter sweet outcome, would love to see what the future holds for Louise and her family.

Truth, as too few understand and embrace

...as I close in on 70 but retain all youthful aspects of growing up in times of hippies and surfboards and NASA, I have come to the sad conclusion those of us over 50 were born at an undefined peak in the evolution of humans...and I hope I am wrong but more accepting that I don't care find out.
Louise's journey in this frustrating child's life says far more than LBGTQIA...it shows the fact we travel farther away from solutions to a better world with each and every segmentation....we are splitting the soul of goodness.
The only solution is the children of tomorrow....but the ingredients are so simple, mankind of 2024 can not grasp and implement what must happen....intervention when necessary for kids not flourishing...dismantling the greed and ego and narcissistic controllers of the world and restoring honesty. integrity. fairness, kindness, hard work with a comfortable life for all who follow that path.
A person is a person....if they are a good person who harms noone, their sexuality has nothing to do with it...nor religion nor color nor disability...fat or skinny.... genius or challenged....
This was a mind-opening listen and God bless Louise and her family for who they are and how hard they tried.

Realistically raw.

It’s a sad but hopeful memoir, the incredible reality of what parenting a teenage girl has become, even without the foster care, abuse or neglect. I was a “care kid”teenager in the 00’s, my daughter is a teenager now and even I can’t relate nor understand what life is like for her in this day and age.
Louise doesn’t offer advice nor does she come across in any way condescending but it does go some way to reassure mothers of other teens that we’re not alone.
Thank you Louise.

Louise

I so hope this isn’t the end to your fostering days as you have proved along side your family to care so much. Tho with the lack of support I fully understand why. Thank you for sharing lots of your wonderful experiences with us. Hats off to you all that make a difference unselfishly to others.
Another amazing book and well written I think what makes Louise the best is managing when crying inside can keep her humour in tact and her wits about her.
Thank you
