About this listen
World number one tennis star Elin Larsson is in hot pursuit of a record number of Grand Slam titles. But between pressing injuries and growing anxiety, it's starting to feel like her heart isn't in it.
Gorgeous rival player Toni Cortes Ruiz bursts onto the scene, chasing her first slam.
As their paths keep crossing in big matches, a growing attraction starts to burn between the competitive women. Elin's used to winning - but not when the woman she's falling for is on the other side of the net. As scandals, the media, and the world starts closing in on them, Elin and Toni need to decide whether they're competitors or on the same side.
Contains mature themes.

Enjoyable but inconsistent
I enjoyed this story but some of the complexities of the secondary characters weren’t really explored. Elin’s family clearly loves her but they are quite unkind and pushy towards her and it feels that this is never explored. Because we get Elin’s inner monologue, we understand the difficulties Alice has faced and can sympathise, but Alice is quite dismissive and unsympathetic towards Elin, and this is never softened, or even acknowledged. Pushing Elin to come out when she wasn’t ready was inappropriate - that Alice had the choice removed from her is terrible but that’s no reason her sister should experience the same.
The coach/loving parent dichotomy has been done to death in sports stories, of course, and it feels like the twist was kind of meant to be, “but Britta is actually a great Mum!”. But… She obviously loves her kids but there was complexity and pressure that went unexplored.
In terms of performance, the accents were inconsistent but that’s just always so difficult to manage - I suppose no one can switch in and out of accents they don’t genuinely have, to this extent, and do it perfectly.

Really good story with some flaws in narration
I really loved the characters and the story. The narration was also really good apart from some little bits.
My main issue with the narration was the continual butchering of the protagonist Elin Larsson's name; the name kept being pronounced as something akin to Alin Lorschen while a reasonable English pronunciation of Elin would be E-lin with the E like in E-mail, the Larsson in English should pretty much be pronounced like larceny without the y, I E a decent English pronunciation would have it basically rhyming with 'arson'.
The narrator also kept butchering the name of the Australian city of "Melbourne" and pronouncing it kind of like as "Melbin", at least I think they intended to talk about "Melbourne" when "Melbin" was said.
So apart from those minor issues, especially as a Swede, I really enjoyed the book and would recommend it to people I know are into romance novels.

Loved the book hates the accents
The book was super sweet. The narration was great however the accents were AWFUL. I loved the way the story flowed. It did get a tad boring in the middle

why do accents when you can't?
The story was OK, and it was good to have a different storyline to usual. the performances of the book were distracting. The accents were terrible, and they really should not have tried. at points, they were borderline inappropriate. if you should Jamaican when trying to be Spanish, then I'd recommend not doing an accent.

great story if you can stomach the accents
compelling plot and pairing, a shame about the accents. I usually really like Lori Prince's narration but she just cannot do accents! why would you get her in for this! sort of tuned it out after a while

loved the story, struggled with the accents
I loved this story, an entertaining romance with great characters and some great sparky dialogue but I struggled with the narration, Lori Prince is easy to listen too but her accents are really poor when they were there at all.

Great for those who like tennis!
I enjoyed the story, I love tennis and have followed the grand slams for years. My wife, who doesn't like tennis found it difficult to follow. We both, like others have said, found the accents terrible - embarrassing even. Lori Prince shouldn't have tried to do a Spanish, Pakistani or even Cockney accent and why the Swedish mother suddenly became British two thirds through I have no idea. Another narrator who can do accents or more than one narrator would've been better.
