About this listen
When Sky and her older sister Avril were taken into care, the social workers knew this was a case like no other. Raised by unhinged parents who hoarded compulsively, creating horrific conditions no child should live in, the two girls arrived at foster carer Louise's home, neglected, malnourished and indoctrinated. Louise had to draw on all of her experience as one of Britain's leading foster carers to rehabilitate and change the course of their lives.
But with constant attempts to thwart her work, Louise ends up under siege in her own home. Will she succeed or is their fate sealed forever?

Good book but narrator does not suit this book!!
I have listened to many of Louise Allen’s book and i think they are wonderful! This book didn’t feel right!!! Melanie has too harsh a voice to me reading as the foster mother. It ruined the book for me, not enough caring in her voice, I am sure she is amazing as a narrator for other books but not louises’

Another amazing read
I really enjoy Louise's stile of writing as it's a bit different from the other foster care authors like Cathy glass and Maggie hartley since she writes about other perspectives than her own and gives more of the childs back story before entering foster care

Finally a raw and honest portrayal of foster care.
As a former looked after child I’ve tried reading a few other foster carers memoirs, whilst I’ve enjoyed them they never seem true to life.
This is the first book I’ve read where the foster carer doesn’t portray herself and her own family as saints, she discusses openly her own anger and frustration at not just the professionals involved but the children in her care too, she’s honest in admitting that foster carers can’t save every child placed with them and not every placement works out regardless of how much hard work is put in.
Out of the many fostering memoirs I’ve read, I can say this is the most relatable in terms of human instinct and emotion as well as the long term outcome.
I’ll definitely be reading more of Louise’s memoirs.

Enjoyed this book a disappointing ending though
I enjoyed listening to this book and it was lovely to find that Avrail's life had turned out so well for her but I was disappointed not knowing what happened to Skye.

wonderful
what a story I am at a loss what to say Louise Lloyd and family have once again battled against a system that is so out of date and does not work. The pressure they were all under is unbelievable and yet again social services let everyone down. Please read this book and have your hankies ready, but also there are some very funny bits and bits that will have you shouting at while listening to it. Narration was fantastic. Thank you Louise for letting us be privvy to part of your life and for not making it all sparkling unicorns the fart glitter.

Another great book from this series.
This was a tough book to read specially due to kind of parents the mother and father were. Louise and the family did their best to help Avril and Sky specially with what Hannah was putting them through. Carers like Louise and her family are really needed. How a mother can use children the way she did was just terrible.
