Summary
New York Times best-selling author James Lovegrove’s continues the story of Sherlock Holmes and The Hound of the Baskervilles, as five years later, another monstrous creature stalks across Dartmoor....
The year 1894. The monstrous Hound of the Baskervilles has been dead for five years, along with its no less monstrous owner, the naturalist Jack Stapleton. Sir Henry Baskerville is living contentedly at Baskerville Hall with his new wife, Audrey, and their three-year-old son, Harry.
Until, that is, Audrey’s lifeless body is found on the moors, drained of blood. It would appear some fiendish creature is once more at large on Dartmoor and has, like its predecessor, targeted the unfortunate Baskerville family.
Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson are summoned to Sir Henry’s aid, and our heroes must face a marauding beast that is the very stuff of nightmares. It seems that Stapleton may not have perished in the Great Grimpen Mire after all, as Holmes believed, and is hell-bent on revenge....

Brilliant
I struggled with this due to personal phobias with needles and the method of the killings… I actually stopped listening early on but came back to it. Very clever and unlike the other books I’ve listened to so far by James Lovegrove

Remarkably good
As a lifelong reader and re-reader of Sherlock Holmes stories, I must say that this book is not only a passage pastiche - but actually damned good. The narration is really first rate and the rambling story with its usual twists and blinds was really enjoyable. Well done. Free Audible version was very welcome.

enjoyable story
I love the cthulu stories but the straight Sherlock stories are rather good. maybe another cthulu one just to tie them together. we never did see the change from non believer to believer.

wonderfully narrated Sherlock Holmes romp
As a Sherlock Holmes fan I am delighted that Lovegrove has written a sequel to one of my favorite tales. The characters are written well and are believable as extensions of Conan Doyle's originals. The story opens with a new disaster befalling the unfortunate Sir Henry Baskerville and Holmes being called upon to help. The key characters introduced in The Hound of The Baskervilles all make an appearance and the plot thickens.
I enjoyed this pacy tale very much although I was a little disappointed at the denouement, hence my 4 stars for plot. Regardless of this, I recommend this because the narration is excellent and I was engaged in the story throughout.

loved every bit
I had given up hope ever to read such a compelling true-to-the-original style of narration and composition SH story ever. But here we are, it's as true as if A. Conan Doyle himself had written it. Enjoyed every bit and would highly recommend.

Well worth a listen
As an avid Sherlock Holmes fan I was a bit sceptical about a non Conan Doyle story but it’s well worth a listen. I took me a little while to gel with Holmes’s voice but overall the narration was, IMO, excellent.

Good, but a bit frustrating.
I have loved all Lovegrove's, 'Sherlock' books, but this is (in my opinion) the weakest. The second half of the book, whilst still a good story, was very frustrating because I already knew (beyond doubt in my mind) who the guilty party was, and struggled to see how any of the other characters could feasibly be so stupid as to not know too. Maybe Lovegrove intended this, in order for the reader/listener to feel some of the frustration of his fictional characters, but I just found myself getting annoyed, and had to fight the urge to skip to the end. Kleinman was a 5 star narrator as always. Thank you.

Excellent narrator....
.... without whom this book might have been something of a car crash. Not the author's best work, but still an enjoyable listen, especially if you just let it wash over you.
