Summary
Kate Winthrop, the only child of a wealthy shipping magnate, has the course of her life charted for her by her parents. She's expected to marry well and produce a successor to the Winthrop empire. But Kate has a very different path in mind. Her true passion lies with photography - and with women.
Alone in the city after losing her brother, Sicilian immigrant Giuliana Russo starts working for the Winthrops as a maid. Despite their different social status, Kate and Giuliana become friends, much to the dismay of Kate's parents.
As the connection between the two women grows, a devastating earthquake hits San Francisco and ignites fires that sweep through the city for three days and nights.
Will the disaster shatter their tentative feelings for each other, or will they find the courage to save each other's lives - and their hearts?
Contains mature themes.

Breath of fresh air
I enjoyed this, it’s different to the usual gay books. Enjoyed both characters and the attention to detail to the time frame it’s set. Would recommend

Fantastic
Another great book by Jae. I love her historical romances.
The characters were really loveable plus it was great to meet Lucy from Oregon county.
I’m just so glad that I live in this day and age where it’s more acceptable to be gay.
I would definitely recommend
I loved it

Another great novel
Some interesting historical detail entwined with a good story. I also like the links between this novel and the 2 Oregon novels and the Hollywood series.

excellent
superb historical fiction well researched, believable characters from different classes, the action scenes and aftermath of the devastation are gritty and draw you into the fray, the narration is very well presented, especially between the two main characters who are sweetness but tough. I really enjoyed it.

I felt like I was back in San Francisco
I’ve been looking forward to this book for so long... I was sad when Jae said that it wasn’t likely to be made into an audiobook (and she had very kindly gifted me a copy of the ebook which I was planning to read on our flight to San Francisco last year) but then I learned that it was going to recorded for audio and I decided to wait for the audio version.
In just the first few minutes I wasn’t in my little house in the UK, I was on the pier looking out across the bay to Alcatraz Island with the sound of the sea lions singing. Thank you Jae.

Wonderful book
This is a great book, based on actual events, and it really gives a feel of how awful it must be to be caught up in a natural disaster. The likeable and believable main, and also the peripheral characters, make for an interesting and educational read. I was particularly impressed that a story can deal with the issue of class, and show that love can conquer all. The narration was excellent too. Will certainly listen to again.

EARTH SHATTERING GOOD!
This is such a brilliant exciting storyline that not only shows the struggles of women but of the different class system in society, regarding family, work and friends and not forgetting love. How a rich girl can fall in love with a poor girl, a mere servant and live happily ever after. Loved it. ❤
Narration is exceptional and a pure joy to listen to. 🎶
