About this listen
What kind of person does it take to build a civilization from the ground up? In this fun hard science fiction novel, astronaut Nick Burke will have to learn how to be a leader if he wants humanity to survive on a new planet, even if he is no longer a human himself.
Nick Burke dreams of successfully creating the first sustainable space colony in human history. After a third failed mission on Mars, Nick returns to Earth heartbroken. But during the trip home, he has an epiphany caused by a near-death experience on how to truly accomplish his dream.
Nick launches a billionaire-funded startup company that solves the interstellar travel problem. Transporting people in a spaceship without any people aboard. After Nick lands on his new, distant planet, he has to combat his greatest trials yet including raising children and goats while becoming a colony building survivalist.
Fans of Andy Weir’s The Martian and Dennis E. Taylor’s We Are Legion (We Are Bob) will find familiar themes of innovative science fiction ideas with plenty of humor and pop culture.

Nice first attempt to write a space novel.
While commuting, I listened to 'Seed' by Matthew G. Dick and found myself questioning whether to continue at several points. However, I persisted until the end. The latter part of the book does show improvement, but it still leaves numerous unresolved questions. For example, how could Burk, with his temper, ever become a candidate for Mars? How does the novel handle the integration between the mind and the 'Space Yeti'? Moreover, the concept of allowing a single human mind to initiate a new civilization raises significant ethical and practical concerns.
It's evident that 'Seed' is your debut novel, and I appreciate the complexities involved in its ambitious themes. I understand there's a sequel forthcoming, which I hope will address some of the lingering questions and take the narrative to new heights.
Remember, success is built on persistence and learning from trial and error. I look forward to your next work and will likely give it a listen, eager to see how you evolve as a storyteller.

looking out for the sequel -Seed is a great story
i loved this book, thank you Mr M.G. Dick. i loved the loving and also very disciplined character that is at times hidden in mr Burke, and the story connecting his family old and new.
i really love the 'how its going to work' parts of this book and the descriptions are well written and enough able to let your imagination fly with this new world, super stuff. loving the musical references and how they affect the new society. i would love to hear a mix up of other music being appreciated-- Soul, Blues, better 70's stuff like Bowie and Talking Heads in the next books yes i am hoping many more please! Mr Marler makes this special too- the performance is totally right for this i think.
also, Melodysheep that music would be great in our minds eye when you are writing,. i hope many more. this got me out of a funk that i was trying to forget and you really wrote a great story! Thanks! eleanorhl

Good start.
I thought that book started well and ended fine but there was a bit of a lull in the middle. I would consider getting the sequel.

Couldn't get past the first hour
Brave choice to basically try to replicate The Martian and The Bobiverse with a deeply unlikable pov character and a space organisation shown as deeply incompetent. Very far from being the hard-SF it claims to be as in reality the kind of people shown would never be allowwd off the groind.
