we finally find out where the vampires came from
I particularly liked hearing how Amel came to be, his origins, or that he is the evil demon spirit he was initially made out to be, and in turn the vampires though the latter is harder to believe. Anne Rice did it again, which I thought was nigh on impossible. it was a slow start, as the descriptions are always so full of minute details, but it got there in the end. Lestat is not the brat prince anymore and it is absolutely shocking that became the Ruler of them all. my disappointment lies in how they dealt with Roshmandes and his betrayal, and I'm still not sold on making the vamps sound old and ancient given they didnt age..the introduction and acceptance of Replimoids changes everything. it's at this point, I think Anne may have outdid herself but tantamount to her wondrous imagination.

Loved this one; especially the narrator
Thought the storyline was great and the narrator had excellent gravitas. Probably my favourite narrator this far

I flipped back and forth so much until it was over
Really didn't know how I'd feel going into this or what to think of it until it was finally done. I've been going through the vampire chronicles one after another for a couple months now and while I really enjoyed this one, I don't think I'd have felt the same if it wasn't all so fresh in my mind.
An interesting story that you should stick with but even people familiar with the series will want a refresher before they jump in.

Another Great Audiobook From Anne Rice
Anne Rice has written yet another great book in her Vampire Chronicles series.
I’ve really enjoyed listening to this audiobook.
It’s even more enjoyable for the fact that Simon Vance is once again narrating it. He really makes Lestat and the other characters come to life.

It was okay

I vant to suck your blood
why oh why has the accent of dracula been used, all these vampires are a world unto themselves and most of them in this where spoken as they where all Romanian... it was painful to hear lestat or Marius sounding the way they where read... and Armand... I slapped my forehead.
I don't doubt Simon vance is a brilliant reader, its not I with my half British half Irish accent could compete but this is as far away as possible from fitting to his reading style, not to mention no understanding of each character... a simple Google search of each character and the correct accents could have been spoken, Simon narrating speech is brilliant if i have to salvage anything.....
regardless, this is a good story from Anne Rice
May she rest in peace

A real mixed bag
The story was strangely interesting and went into great details in some parts, but also totally skipped important factors. The vampire clan came across rather simple minded, especially for creatures who have been around for a few thousand years. The sharpness and beguile of earlier books long gone. If we were to believe that Amol was a powerful spirit who was already a few thousand years old when Atlantis was destroyed, how did his replamoid body disintegrate? When he entered Akasha, what was it that made them creatures of the night? why were they weakened and destroyed by sunlight? where did the teeth and blood drinking come from? Especially as Amol was mainly a vegetarian, with meat needing a festival to come into the diet. It was like we just won't mention anything about that... I can't see much room has been left for the story to develop, so it was a poor send off for Lestat IMO.

awful reading interp
whoever read aloud clearly has no clue about the books of Rice or the past descriptions of Lestat's character. the hammy romanian vlad dracul accent affected RUINED the story for me
