About this listen
Samantha Martin is an imp, enjoying an extended vacation from Hel. All she wants to do is drink beer by the pool, play mischievous pranks on the humans, and get her hot neighbor in the sack. It's a relaxing break from her infernal home as long as she manages to avoid the angels, who won't hesitate to execute her on sight.
But when her naughty hellhound lands her in trouble with the local werewolf pack, Sam is blackmailed into helping track and catch a killer. The steps she must take to appease the werewolves will put her right in the crosshairs of the angels. And with angels, there is no second chance.

Slow start gets better
Firstly to start the story was slow and the narrator annoying but after several attempts at listening I decided to stick with it and it did pick up and I got used to the narrator speaking like an alien! So much so I actually have it 4 stars and will buy the next book Still rubbish narrator! Lol

Slow burner which picked up pace
Struggled with the narrator initially as I found her lacking in intonation. So much so that I stopped listening. I finally decided to try again and found myself warming to her more subtle style. Once past this sticky point, I found the book engaging and threaded with humour. So much so that I finished it in super quick time!

Good start to the series
What a great character! Our heroine is a smart mouthed imp who has set up a comfortable life, away from the unpleasantness of hell. All she really wants is to remain under the radar, play with her horses who hate her and lust after her neighbour. Unfortunately, fate has other ideas, and an obligation to a werewolf sees her comfortable life shot out from under her.
With her trademark sarcasm and penchant for trouble, she finds herself having to ally with an angel, whose job it is to send her back to the fiery pits, to track down a rogue angel who's gone batty. Another twist of fate ends up linking them, an unpleasant experience for both.
The narrator speaks so slowly that I had to increase the speed t listen to it. Very strange. Once I did this, the narration was bearable and the story was fantastic.

Amorality writ large, well and entertainingly
Would you consider the audio edition of A Demon Bound to be better than the print version?
Bad question, both have their advantages.
What did you like best about this story?
The lead, Sam, a completely amoral demon, on a hedonistic holiday ends up having to help people for all the wrong reasons. Snarky, horny, mischievous and greedy she shows that you don't have to be a good guy to be good.
Which scene did you most enjoy?
Lots of the asides, a couple of lines here and there during the main plot describing her 'practical jokes' like sending float balloons bouncing down main street while she enjoys watching the car crashes.
If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Who needs to be good to be good.

Decent book dreadful narration
What did you like best about A Demon Bound? What did you like least?
I really liked the original storyline in particular the main character Sam
I really disliked the performance of the narrator who did her best to ruin the book with the worst narration I have ever heard.
How could the performance have been better?
It couldnt be any worse - - but reading without misplaced pauses, differentiating between different voices and putting some expression into the narration would be a good start
If this book were a film would you go see it?
yes
Any additional comments?
worth sticking with it - its really quite amusing and has a good original storyline and if you can stick it out the second book in the series is even better - even the narration though not great is much better

Different and refreshing
This book was such a fantastic breath of fresh air with distinctly unique characters and ideas. This book goes to show that demons aren't always bad and angels aren't always good. I really loved that Sam is not your typical heroine in the story. She isn't bound by social norms and morals the way the average human is. I thought Debra Dunbar did a fantastic job at writing Sam as neither good nor evil, but just someone who does what they like simply because it's fun. Debra clearly put a lot of consideration into the mindset of a demon to really allow for the reader to like Sam despite the fact she doesn't think or behave like a human.
I was a little torn on the narration though. Angela Rysk has a fantastic, expressive voice and I feel she portrays Sam and her quirkiness perfectly. She also does a great job at narrating the other characters too. My only issue was that sometimes there was no distinction between Sam's inner thoughts and when she was speaking to other characters. It was sometimes hard to tell right away when the dialogue stopped and the narration started and visa versa. There was also some unnecessarily long pauses between characters when they spoke to each other. I do however still look forward to hearing her narrate the rest of the series.

Great Read Great audio Book
Would you consider the audio edition of A Demon Bound to be better than the print version?
The audio is always better than the print version, in the narrator been able to put in tonal reflections and when the timing is delivered correctly, it becomes alive and is by far more enjoyable.
What was one of the most memorable moments of A Demon Bound?
The imp ending in trouble so many times, especially with the dark angel
What does Angela Rysk bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
very much the tonal perspective, timing and pauses, and listening to her great delivery in narration.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
A good few times I felt the character, although very unusual, interesting in the way her feelings were expressed
Any additional comments?
I have purchased the first 4 volumes and soon to get the 5th, I compare Debra to such writers as Diana Rowland, Chris Fieldwater, Kelly Meding and Kevin Hearn who all write up similar type characters, but have their own writing style, D Rowlings and Chris Fieldwater, are very good authors. Debra is in their class and highly recommended.
