About this listen
Primal Endurance shakes up the status quo and challenges the overly stressful, ineffective conventional approach to endurance training. While marathons and triathlons are wildly popular and bring much gratification and camaraderie to the participants, the majority of athletes are too slow, continually tired, and carry too much body fat respective to the time they devote to training. The prevailing "chronic cardio" approach promotes carbohydrate dependency, overly stressful lifestyle patterns, and ultimately burnout.
Mark Sisson, author of the 2009 best seller, The Primal Blueprint, and de-facto leader of the primal/paleo lifestyle movement, expertly applies primal lifestyle principles to the unique challenge of endurance training and racing. Unlike the many instant and self-anointed experts who have descended upon the endurance scene in recent years, Sisson and his co-author/business partner, Brad Kearns, boast a rich history in endurance sports. Sisson has a 2:18 marathon and fourth-place Hawaii Ironman finish to his credit, has spearheaded triathlon's global anti-doping program for the International Triathlon Union, and has coached/advised leading professional athletes, including Olympic triathlon gold and silver medalist Simon Whitfield and Tour de France cyclist Dave Zabriskie. Under Sisson's guidance, Kearns won multiple national championships in duathlon and triathlon, and rose to a number-three world triathlon ranking in 1991.
Primal Endurance applies an all-encompassing approach to endurance training that includes primal-aligned eating to escape carbohydrate dependency and enhance fat metabolism, building an aerobic base with comfortably paced workouts, strategically introducing high-intensity strength and sprint workouts, emphasizing rest, recovery, and an annual periodization, and finally cultivating an intuitive approach to training instead of the usual robotic approach of fixed weekly workout schedules.

alternative reality
I thoroughly enjoyed this audio book and the way it was told. The narrator was easy to listen to and humorous in many parts of what is mostly a factual / opinion Laden book. I am not an endurance athlete but although heavily biased to that market it is all easily translatable to other sport and sports people.
I am giving the training methods and dietary advice a trial to see how I feel after and would be better placed then to give feedback on the results. The training and diet advice in this book seem like sound advice in theory which is why I'm going to try it.

Brilliant lifestyle change!
Been doing this for 2 and a half months and I've lost 30 pounds, and I've never had do much energy! I've not felt like I was on a diet a day of it and I feel better in most ways than when I've been fit before, more energy, sharper mind, no little strains on my body. I'm working my way back down from 290 pounds so my fitness won't be where it was until I'm a bit lower but whenever I've done other diets, training regime's, it's felt like a slog and only will power would get me there, but I have enjoyed every minute of this and can't recommend it enough!

Possibly life changing
Fantastic book, and superbly narrated. I have completely and utterly changed my training routine as a direct result and I'm feeling the benefits big time. (Extra) weight falls off in the 21 day 'trial' period and makes you want to sustain such eating habits - though not so easy with a family of 5. Listened to it twice straight through, and will do so again for sure. Bought The Primal Blueprint on the back of this book, and I'm really looking forward to that now too...

Excellent book filled with great advice
What did you like most about Primal Endurance?
I loved this book and worked through it in a few days. Brad's narration was great and I found it entertaining. The first chapter summarising the book is really helpful for reviewing. Exercise recommendations around staying below aerobic threshold, periodisation and sprinting were all excellent. Still unsure about MSP strength training. There seems to be very little out there on this lifting routine to validate it yet but I'll incorporate it into my workouts and see how it goes.
The chapters on diet exceptional as always. I've lost stones of weight following low carb high fat. The science is legit.
The only negative point about the audiobook which is why I didn't give it 5 stars overall was that there is no accompanying PDF. Some of the schedules, diagrams and especially the warm up exercises need to be included as a separate PDF. If that changes then I'll give it the full 5 stars.

I have so much more energy
This is an excellent book, a few weeks into changing my lifestyle and eating habits I have much more energy, less aches and pains and my endurance is rocketing upwards. I often find fitness books quite hard to sit down and read cover to cover, but having this as an audiobook (excellently narrated by Brad Kearns) has enabled me to listen to it a couple of times already. There is so much to take from this book for both beginners and elite runners, thank you Mark and Brad.
