Summary

Under cover of night in Richmond, Virginia, a human monster strikes, leaving a gruesome trail of stranglings that has paralysed the city. Medical examiner Kay Scarpetta suspects the worst: a deliberate campaign by a brilliant serial killer whose signature offers precious few clues. With an unerring eye, she calls on the latest advances in forensic research to unmask the madman. But this investigation will test Kay like no other, because it’s being sabotaged from within - and someone wants her dead.

Very nice book and perfect interpretation

Suspense up until the end and the narrator changes voices for every single character, she is impressive!

I do like the Scarpeyta series

I read the books many years ago but it was nice listening to them again - wasn’t sure about Marino’s voice but I warmed to him by the end- I’m on to the next now.

Bit of a Drag

This is one of Cornwell's earlier novels which I read way back. To me, the printed word seems better than the audio version. I understood what the characters were like and when hearing the audio version nothing like what I had imagined, Lucy Scarpetta's niece came across as an annoying spoilt brat. I found the story seemed to falter in places, although the plot was weak, to say the least, and not only weak but drawn out.
I do have another Scarpetta on my audio kindle just hope there is a bit more oomph to it.

Great book, not sure about parts of the narration

I read this (and many of the others in the series) years ago when it first came out, and thought I would revisit it in audio form. Still an excellent book, but I am not sure about the narrator here. I did find some of the voices that Lorelei King uses in the narration a little grating, especially that of Marino and Lucy. Still very enjoyable though and I would recommend it.

First of its kind

I remember reading this book in 1990 when it was released.
I had never read anything like it before and I was stunned by the story,
Since then it has been much copied by other writers.
The rest of the Kay Scarpetta series seldom matched this book but are worth a listen..
This audio edition is good.

A bit over rated

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I can't pin point what I didn't like about the story; I think it's more that if feels like just another thriller in the middle if other several million thrillers, nothing exciting about it.

Would you recommend Postmortem to your friends? Why or why not?

Not really; as I mentioned, there is nothing special about it.

Any additional comments?

The ending was a bit of a let down and unfortunately it has put me off any other Scarpetta series books.

sometime the first book are the best

Any additional comments?

sometime the first book are the best, well I think so. I have read most of Patricia's book but have found I have gone off them, as they have gone onto more about the characters than actually working out things and solving any cases. So I thought I remembered this as being good (hey why else would I have read so many of her books) and I was right I really enjoyed and it was nice to go back to the beginning. There were a few twists were I thought I knew (or remembered) who the killer was and I turned out to be wrong.

The only thing was that I am use to Lorelei King reading Stephanie Plum books so took me a while to switch gears, but once I got over that. it was a good performance.

An interesting story that pulls you in at first but…

Lacks pace, monotone delivery and has not aged very well. I enjoyed aspects but overall was a bit tedious!
