Summary

As the dust settles on the battlefield of Carthage, Alexander finds himself struggling to cope with the aftermath of war. Plagued by demonic corruption and mental exhaustion, he searches for any means to restore his strength and secure his rapidly expanding empire.

In his desperation, Alexander turns to a mysterious prisoner who offers a unique form of power that could help him achieve his goals. But with the prisoner's motivations unclear, Alexander must weigh the risks of trusting this enigmatic figure against his own desperate need for a solution. In addition to his personal struggles, Alexander faces the daunting task of securing trade routes for Venice before the pirate threat returns.

Seeking new sources of resources and allies, he leads his legion north to the scattered outposts on the dangerous frontier.

But the region is fraught with danger, as many of the outposts have recently been overrun by powerful monsters or treachery. To survive, Alexander and his legion must rely on new allies, new technology, and strange, unknown powers that Alexander alone might be able to master.

As Alexander ventures deeper into the unknown, he must also grapple with his own inner demons and find a way to heal his mind and body. Can he overcome the challenges ahead and lay claim to the resources of the frontier?

Just a really good series

Possibly one of my favourites, I genuinely enjoy and am interested in what happens next. It isn’t the typical “super overpowered main character” stuff either, the dude gets messed up throughout the series. It’s definitely worth the listen!!! Please don’t stop writing these books!!

Best so far

This was the best book so far. The doppelgangers are great and make the pacing fast and consistent. I can't wait to see where it goes next

Amazing

the story is at the same time easy to follow excellently built upon the existing material without degrading it or simplifying it while still exploring the more nuance topics of existence power and Civilization it is truly a masterpiece

Truly I was wrong about this book. Its great.

honestly I absolutely love the first book.
the second one was alright even with the mental issues because Alexander got more powerful and it fit with the theme. all the mental issues kinda ruined the first part of this though since it left like the MC became so useless. which made me give this one up. I came back to it because I was bored and loved previous books. only to find out I quit right when the author stopped putting mental issues into every sentence. After that most of the book was more of what I loved about this series. Alexander using his powers to make things better.

having multiple perspectives with the same MC is genius. one thing I missed in this series is you don't get that personal connection with new people because the problems are on a much bigger scale. like meeting and spending time with certain characters. having one version of himself be a simple blacksmith and meet new important characters and show them how great he is. this is the reason I read/listen to books with Powerful MC's. Alexander's story makes him great its not plot convenience or deus ex machina that makes him powerful, but his backstory and intelligence allows the writer to do similar things without that feeling of luck on the protagonists side.

I must confess my original review was scathing. that was wrong and I genuinely hope people didn't turn from this book because of it. I was irritated because I liked this series so much and I thought it was getting worse. I'm glad to be mistaken. so I apologise for that first review.

p.s the Voice actor was brilliant as usual.
