Summary

Polgara is the epic culmination of a magnificent saga, and a fitting farewell to a world that, once experienced, will never be forgotten.

She soars above a world of warriors, kings, and priests. The daughter of Belgarath and the shape-shifter Poledra, she has fought wars, plotted palace coups, and worked her powerful magic for 3,000 years. Now, Polgara looks back at her magnificent life, in this fitting crown jewel to the saga that is the Eddingses' Belgariad and Mallorean cycles.

Her hair streaked white by her father's first touch, her mind guided by a mother she will not see again for centuries, Polgara begins life in her Uncle Beldin's tower, and in the prehistorical, magical Tree that stands in the middle of the Vale. There, she first learns the reaches of her powers. There she assumes the bird shapes that will serve her on her adventures. And there she starts on the path toward her destiny as duchess of Erat, shepherdess of the cause of good, adversary of Torak the One-Eyed Dragon God, and guardian of the world's last, best hope: the heir to the Rivan throne.

Here is the legendary life story of a woman of wit, passion, and complex emotions, a woman born of two majestic parents who could not have been more unlike one another. Ordained to make peace and make war, to gain love and lose love, Polgara lives out her family's rich prophecy in the ceaseless struggle between the Light and the Dark.

Some issues

The story is great and the voice acting is mostly great too but there are many times where a word is cut off or a line is repeated

A total masterpiece

Having read all the in previous books in this series 20 years ago, I never got around to reading Polgara's story and that was my loss. It was simply stunning from start to finish I was spellbound, it's an epic masterpiece.

A satisfactory ending

It took me a while to get used to the change of narrator. It did get repetitive but I guess that was to be expected. It provided the missing information to most questions.

hear a book before reading ?

Being English and having read this book previously i had imagined all the main characters to have English accents so it sounded very strange to hear the story in an American accent....didnt seem to fit...but i suppose if i had heard the book before i read it i would have enjoyed it more possibly ?

Great book...horrible Perfomance

I love this book, however the readers voice was so bad and grating I could not listen to it for more than 5 minutes...real pity the other books are read by someone else and much better

Narrator spoils the book

This isn't my favourite Eddings book, but it's still an interesting story and completes the series. However, the narrator spoils it here. Before she recorded this book, there were two whole series and one stand-alone book recorded. Plenty of examples of how things should be pronounced, and of the voices of characters.

Instead of keeping things consistent, it's as though she deliberately pronounces things as differently as possible. 'Pol-GAH-ra', 'sard-EYE-on', etc. At the beginning, she even manages to make Ce'Nedra sound like an old woman! Very inconsistent with the rest of the series, and shows a disappointing lack of preparation. If I were narrating a book where other books in the series existed, I'd take the basic trouble to learn how names were pronounced and a little about the voice of each character.

Oh, and there is no such thing as 'high dungeon'. It's 'dudgeon'. How was this not only recorded (and said multiple times, too) but also left in by whoever edited this? The narrator first of all should have had the common sense to look up a repeated word she obviously didn't know (it's not a typo if it's repeated), but the editor should also have spotted this and requested a pickup recording. it's an example of the 'bare minimum' level of effort that it feels was put in here.

Story is interesting, and I won't be returning the book, but I'd love to see it re-recorded by someone who took pride in the work.

Terrible narration sounds like cheap AI at times

It’s a great series and great book with wonderful characters ..but the narrator just mispronounced too many words and it’s just ruined the flow far to many times ….how do you mispronounce brooch for gods sake ? I can live with pronunciation of words being different if the word is kinda made up - still they don’t feel right or logical - but basic common words ? Come on

The narration

The narration is awful, why can the lady reading not pronounce like all the other books before? It’s really making the listening very painful as certain words and name plus accents are really bad
