Summary

Still in the formative years of his career, Hercule Poirot faces a most taxing case: who killed Lord Cronshaw? Was Coco Courtenay’s death on the same night a mere coincidence? And did she deliberately take an overdose of cocaine?

No sooner has Poirot revealed his astonishing powers of deduction than he is faced with seventeen other mysteries to test his soon-to-be-famous ‘little grey cells’.

As a matter of courtesy to a group of young people, he endeavours to solve the gruesome murder of a woman whose body they have stumbled upon whilst locked out of their flat, and with his usual precision and elan he discovers exactly how ‘Mary, Mary quite contrary’ makes her garden grow…

A very good narration by Hugh Fraser

Murder in bite sized pieces and Hugh Fraser keeps up the tension and attention with his narration. I usually prefer the dramatised versions but was kept enthralled with this version. Thoroughly recommended; just wish I knew what happened to Captain Hastings!

bite sized Poirot

condensed versions of the t.v. episodes to nibble on between grittier heavy going books. perfect for doing chores or relaxing with a cuppa. i like the narration from Captain Hastings point of view with David Suchet in between as the great man himself.

Some good, some less so.

It was fantastic to have David Suchet bringing Poirot to life in this thrilling audiobook.

Well done!

This is a collection of Agatha Christies tales, maybe not so well known to everyone, well read and a great performance. I am an avid knitter and find Audible books the only way to 'read' and knit simultaneously!

Tickle the little grey cells

Where does Poirot's Early Cases rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Among the best

Who was your favorite character and why?

Why, Poirot of course! He is proud, yet humble: gentle, yet fierce: precise, thoughtful, wonderfully eccentric, and much much more.

What does Hugh Fraser and David Suchet bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Well, to be completely obvious, their voices. It is magical to hear 'the proper Poirot', because David is such a perfect Poirot - I believe Agatha's daughter told him that her mother would have approved. I love David's natural voice too: and Hugh's - I have even become accustomed to his 'Poirot voice'.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

18 little exercises for the 'Little grey cells'

Any additional comments?

I was disappointed not to be able to find a list of the stories in this book. I keep checking, certain it must be there somewhere.. The book itself lists only chapter numbers, so I have to play each one to find out the title, since I wish to re-read them, then watch the TV production of the same story. However, good old wiki to the rescue.

I love it

I really like this audiobook, the performances are very good. There is something I would like to clarify though, for those people who actually read the comments and reviews. I have seen one reviewer complaining about the fact that one story, or some parts of the stories are not read by Hugh Fraser or David Suchet. Well, they all are, but if one is not familiar with David Suchet's work, apart from his performance as Poirot, then they might not recognize his normal voice.

Would you consider the audio edition of Poirot's Early Cases to be better than the print version?

Cant go wrong with Agatha Christie stories and this is no exception.
