About this listen

A seasoned military officer uncovers a deadly conspiracy on a distant, war-torn planet…

War heroes aren't usually called out of semi-retirement and sent to the far reaches of the galaxy for a routine investigation. So when Colonel Carl Butler answers the call from an old and powerful friend, he knows it's something big - and he's not being told the whole story. A high councilor's son has gone MIA out of Cappa Base, the space station orbiting a battle-ravaged planet. The young lieutenant had been wounded and evacuated - but there's no record of him having ever arrived at hospital command.

The colonel quickly finds Cappa Base to be a labyrinth of dead ends and sabotage: the hospital commander stonewalls him, the Special Ops leader won't come off the planet, witnesses go missing, radar data disappears, and that’s before he encounters the alien enemy. Butler has no choice but to drop down onto a hostile planet - because someone is using the war zone as a cover. The answers are there - Butler just has to make it back alive…

Enjoyable

I have to like the characters in a book, and I did here. Brought to life by RC Bray whose storytelling style is great as always.

A captive and interesting listen.

I thought I would give this book a go. It started of slightly slow, and I wondered if I would keep listening. Then, I found myself halfway through the book and totally engrossed wanting to find out more.
Great story and left me wanting more.
I hope Book 2 delivers also.

Addictive military sci-fi

Hard to stop listening. Fast paced story with a great lead character. RC Bray nails it as usual. Would appeal to seasoned sci-fi lovers and beginners alike. A great listen!

an unexpected gem of a book!

I wouldn't have said that I was a military sci fi fan but this book may have changed my mind completely. The story, which wasn't slow to start with, crept up pace the further and futher you get into the story. You get a real sense of military with this book that I haven't got from other sci fi and that, in my opinion, made this book stand out. The book is from the point of veiw of the main character, which normally I find a little off putting but this was a perfect blend of his thoughts and what was actually happening in the story that just grabbed my attention and made me feel part of the story rather than someone listening in.
I will defenitley carry on with this series, although the book works well as a self contained story as well. There is obviously plot threads that you want to know more about, but it doesnt leave the tale with a massive cliff hanger.
