About this listen

Persuasion, Jane Austen's last novel, is a tale of love and marriage told with irony and insight. Anne Elliot and Captain Wentworth have met and seperated years before. Their reunion, after the passage or irrecoverable years of their youth, forces a recognition of the false values that drove them apart.First published 1818. Lovely reading by Greta Scacchi

I haven't read any Jane Austen for many years, and really enjoyed becoming reacquainted with her writing again. Gretta Scacchi's narration was very nice. She has a lovely soothing voice. This has definitely encouraged me to try other Austen works on Audible.

A gem of a find!

Austen at her best in this romantic tale of manners, decorum and society - I loved it! Highly recommend.

I mean what’s to say, it’s Austen.

Persuasion is one of my favourite Austen works, this is a solid version. The narration is good, there are couple of idly long pauses but apart from that I have no criticism.

If you’re new to Austen then I have no doubt that you will love this particular book. It is one of her most mature and yet most heartfelt novels with a heroine that you can’t help but adore.

Touching, poignant love story with a wry humour

I listen to it over and over again, my personal favourite Austen novel.

Still has some relevant lessons for today.

Also read very well!

Very slow reading with strange, long pauses throughout.

Although the voice actor has a nice voice, she reads too slowly and there are long pauses continually that are far too drawn out to fit the flow of the narrative. Very strange. Very good story in the usual Austen style.
