Summary
The New York Times best-selling author of Life's Too Short delivers a refreshingly modern fairy tale perfect for fans of Casey McQuiston and Emily Henry.
After a wild bet, Alexis Montgomery has had her world turned upside down. The cause: Daniel Grant, a ridiculously hot carpenter who's 10 years younger than her and as casual as they come—the complete opposite of sophisticated city-girl Alexis. And yet their chemistry is undeniable.
While her ultra-wealthy parents want her to carry on the family legacy of world-renowned surgeons, Alexis doesn't need glory or fame. She's fine with being a 'mere' ER doctor. And every minute she spends with Daniel and the tight-knit town where he lives, she's discovering just what's really important. Yet letting their relationship become anything more than a short-term fling would mean turning her back on her family and giving up the opportunity to help thousands of people.
Bringing Daniel into her world is impossible, and yet she can't just give up the joy she's found with him either. With so many differences between them, how can Alexis possibly choose between her world and his?

So good I became grumpy if I had to do anything other than listen to this book
It really was that good. I consume a lot of romance. This book made me stop and completely become absorbed. The characters genuinely grow throughout the story and you fall in love with them as they fall in with each other. Daniel Grant, a new and forever book boyfriend. Also it has farm animals, cute ones with silly names, I mean common…that should make you want to listen to this book alone.
Trigger warning for the theme of domestic abuse, but I would say this is done brilliantly. The theme is not there for a harrowing effect but instead is an exploration of the experience of survivors. Giving a frame to understand domestic abuse and talk about it.

What a wonderful book
I listened to “Life’s too short” first and thought surely this wouldn’t be as good, but boy was I wrong. What a fantastic book, outlining issues that you don’t read about in these types of books and Abby Jimenez has done it so well! The narration is also so heart felt - specially the emotional scenes! So many hilarious moments too and honestly this author is becoming my favourite. Highly recommend.

The message to always follow your heart
This book is an absolute treasure, I devoured it during my drive to and from London this weekend. I’m not sure what I expected, but I certainly didn’t expect to love it as much as I did. It’s a heartwarming story of two people from entirely different worlds, Alexis is a city ER doctor, while Daniel is a small-town carpenter, who meet by chance and form an instant, surprising connection.
Abby Jimenez’s crafts a story that felt both fresh and timeless, filled with banter, emotional depth, and a delightful cast of quirky, lovable side characters. The small-town setting adds a special charm, making me wish I could visit Wakan and meet everyone myself. Jimenez also sensitively tackles the issue of domestic violence and abuse, shedding light on forms of abuse that aren’t always visible.
The audiobook narrators are outstanding, bringing these characters to life in a way that made me love them even more. Their performances truly elevated the story and deepened my connection to it. This book is the perfect escape and a beautiful reminder of the importance of following your heart.

One of the best I’ve listened to in a long time
I wouldn’t have assumed the lessons/ideas presented in this fantastic book from the cover. I’m so glad I listened!
I love this author and I think this is her best yet. Also helped that such amazing narrators were chosen. Plot, characters, development, humour, sadness, depth. Everything 🙌👏❤️

Remarkable and magical.
Well I have just forgone nearly a whole nights sleep to listen to this book. Done well, it would make a great film. Good well written story telling was transformed by the skills of these narrators to something quite magical and special.
I only chose this book because Zachary Webber is one of the male narrators I know gives a beautiful performance, and has improved so much over the years. Julia Whelan was equally as good. Thank you
I’ll try and get a nap sometime today.
