End of an Amazing Series

Truly loved this series. Great characters and stories. Bitter sweet final book. Nathan Lowell has given us a great role model in Ishmael Wong.

Brilliant

A view of a way of life to come, as old as the stars and sea. One of the best reads, in this genre, in many a moons. And ne'er a war in sight. Really a breath of fresh air (as long as the scrubber filters are maintained)!

So Very Sad

This has to be one of the saddest stories I have listened to. I certainly did not see it coming from one direction, ‘gramps’. However, I did see it coming from the other officer involved, which made me wonder how someone who is supposed to be a captain has very little insight into their crew.

That said and, without giving too much away, I certainly did not see the figure behind the conspiracy. Plots within plots. ensure this is a book not to miss.

Best Sci-fi I have listen to in a very long time.

There are no guns, no space battles and no strange alien encounters! Just incredibly good characters and subtle story lines.
I started listening to the first couple of books on the free audible subscription and had to drop the credits for the rest. I've listened to all 6 books back to back and just wish there were more in this series.
The writing is really good, I mean really, really good. The main character progression is wonderful to listen to and for a story set in the deep dark totally believable.
Narration is extremely good, no stupid character voices or jarring accents.
I'm actually really sad that I've finished them all. Not something I have said in a long time. If you read this Mr Lowell, come on there has to be another story in there??? I know you finished on a logical ending but don't leave me hanging!

What a brilliant series this is!!

I am devastated to have reached the end of this series! I have been embroiled in the life and loves of Ishmael Wong for several weeks. Loved it! So sad there is no more, but eager to get on to the next series now!!

no way... last one!

It's taken me a while to get to writing up some reviews, my bad.

I was excited for this, because I knew it was the last in this series. But also a little worried about the length of it. Most of the other books were a lot shorter.

However, I didn't think at all that it was overly long at all. Each day I listened (about 4 hours a day) there was enough entertainment and interest for me to keep on wanting more and more.

The death of anyone can upset the apple cart, but to lose the main man who he reports to is tough, and the echo from that, and the proposal that comes his way is very intriguing. There are so many hidden depths to the story and you're guessing what is going on, and making wrong calls, because we don't expect things. Ishmael takes on a new ship and crew and amazingly enough seems to do okay.

And this audiobook took us through, okay, anger, heartache, love, heartbreak, and had me totally on the edge of my driving seat. I admit, there were a couple of things I saw coming, but they also had me crying. With one deft twist there too. So be prepared to be emotionally involved a lot with this book, it's gripping to the point you won't want to stop listening. (and in fact after getting home one day from work, I couldn't I had to get to the end) Kudos to Nick for that.

There's a couple of things that grated on me a little more than it did in the other stories, some repetitive word choices that I really think he needs to watch out for in his other works, as well. haha.

but other than those, I was extremely glad to have been on this journey with Ishmael, handled expertly well by the great voice of Jeffery Kafer. Is there going to be more? I hope so, because it's interesting to actually see and witness, the cooking and cleaning and the basic rituals of life on board a ship. Yes it seems to be just that, and stocking and supplying everything on a ship you'd think to be totally boring, some might, but it doesn't come across like that in the novel. It seems just right, and seems to work. :)

I am going to take a look around and see if there's anything else by this fab team. I'm going to miss Ishmael and his life.

Thank you very much for the journey. It's been a pleasure.

Wow!

I really loved this audiobook! There are quite a few reviews that say how bad the book Is. Well it's not the book they dislike, it's the choice the author, Nathan Lowell made. I think he was very brave in choosing the path he did. Yes it's not conventional 'happy ending' but the story does continue, in away. This arc has finished but we still follow Captain Wang, in his next adventure, in Ashes Born, A Seeker's Tale From The Golden Age Of The Solar Clipper. So the happy ending for Captain Wang may happen.

Going back to this book, it's slightly different to start with, but it doesn't disappoint. I thought we were going to be in port for a long time, but we got back to space quickly. I loved how he became a owner, how he made his choices, how he has grown up over the years.

I really like the length of the chapters how you can listen to one chapter in a break at work or two chapters just before bed (it's hard to listen to just one!) Also the full length of the book was a treat as it was longer than normal. It's the type of book you don't want to end but you also want to know the whole story.

What a lovely story book 6 of the solar clipper

I’ve never read/heard sci-fi stories so well told, it’s not just the narration, but the dialogue & the flow of the story and the characters in it were like a pod of dolphins darting amongst & through the crest of breaking waves until the story sweeps you to the realisation that it was the journey, the journey which is the crucial thing
Truly lovely sci-fi
Through the series of books my wife has been asking me what’s he been up to now, “oh a bit more buying a bit more selling “ I’ve replied
Lovely work

Well performed workaday story of spacefaring folk

Jeffrey Kafer has made Ishmael Wang his own. A good performer.

There are few surprises for followers of Lowell's solar clipper tales. They are not adventurous or even exciting. But they do hold attention with the challenges of the working environment. There is a real feel for the daily routine.

Lowell has a subdued style. Coffee is more important than anything else. Cargo beats the physics of superluminal travel.
