About this listen
Clueless meets Bridgerton in this spicy opposites-attract Regency romance told with “self-assured style, wit, and energy” (Lisa Kleypas, New York Times bestselling author).
Lady Vesper Lyndhurst is beautiful, clever, and popular. Afforded every luxury as a duke’s daughter, she fills her days with friends, intrigues, and a self-professed knack for matchmaking. She may have sworn off love for herself, but she is rather excellent at arranging it.
Faced with an insolvent estate, the Duke of Greydon has no choice but to return to England in a final attempt to revive his family’s fortunes. He’s been gone for years, happy to have escaped his mother and the petty circles of the ton. To his dismay, not much has changed, including the beautiful and vexing heiress next door.
But when an accident of fate traps the friends-turned-enemies in an attic together, the explosive attraction between them becomes impossible to ignore and even harder to resist. They are total opposites and their lives don’t align in the slightest, but fate, the ultimate matchmaker, appears to have other plans . . .
"Refreshing, steamy, and stocked with characters you don’t normally get to see in the genre—a must-read author." —Jodi Picoult, #1 New York Times bestselling author

Charming… but …
The story is charming and the plot regarding the father was fascinating and it would have been more thrilling if that plot re mother etc would have deepened…
Instead of the cat 🐈⬛
Therefore only 3 stars 🌟 for the story I self …

Rubbish
Decent narrator, disappointing book. Weak plot with some sort of misguided feminist agenda that simply doesn't work for the time this story is set in. This obsession some authors have with imposing modern ideas on what are supposed to be a completely different situations is incredibly annoying and personally I don't think it does woman kind any good.
Our forebears fought for our rights exactly because women had none to speak of. They couldn't control estates and imprison dukes at will, they couldn't ride hell for leather on Rotten Row or visit Seven Dials on their own, they couldn't become ballet dancers and still be considered respectable and they certainly couldn't behave in public the way our heroine and her friends seem to do. To pretend otherwise is simply insulting and diminishing the sacrifice these brave women made. I wouldn't be so critical if she just wrote an easy, fun romance loosely based in this period - think Loretta Chase. But she's trying to make this book into something it isn't by bringing in tough subjects like women's rights, mental health, the rights of the poor etc. and not doing them any justice at all.
Frankly, I have no idea why the author wrote this as a historical romance as she clearly hasn't bothered to do any research on the time period. Everything is wrong, from the litany of dukes that seem to be more common on the ground than servants to the laws, politics, language, fashions and social customs. I wasn't expecting Georgette Heyer quality but this is not even in the same universe. It is, in fact, a complete waste of money and I'm going to return it asap.
