Summary
Seducing the Earl of Southwell is the perfect revenge . . . unless Honora loses her heart.
Honora Drevenport is a young, awkward, barely acceptable young lady when she first meets the dashing Earl of Southwell and falls hopelessly in love.
After suffering a terrible humiliation at the hands of Southwell's friends, Honora's family forces her to marry. Years later, Honora is no longer unhappily wed but a stunning widow and the toast of London. A woman who has never forgotten the Earl of Southwell or what happened that terrible night.
Honora's plan is simple: make Southwell fall in love with her and exact her revenge.
Contains mature themes.

the tiresome ugly duckling trope
The whole premise of the book is based on the heroine having been "unattractive" in her youth, because she wasn't skinny ( a massive eyeroll )
She's bullied, ridiculed & grossly humiliated one night & the hero played a big part in it.
He neither apologises nor tries to defend her in any way.
Years later, after her suffering a great deal for many years, which the author only really alludes to, but never really fully fleshed it out ... the extremely tired trope of the ugly duckling is in full force, she's now a stunner bent on revenge... again, an extremely overused & tiresome trope!
My main issues with the book, beyond the overused & tiresome tropes already mentioned is that the hero never takes responsibility for his actions in humiliating her beyond belief.
She's the one constantly chasing him (for revenge... allegedly) & never once does he stand up for her... not in the past & not in the present either!
She's the one who has to try to win him back... he as usual runs away!
Honestly, it all felt a trifle shallow & superficial... as it all feels driven by pure aesthetics more so than anything else.
& heaven only knows why she didn't sell the house rather than living with her extremely spiteful mother-in-law.

fathphobic themes from beginning to end
a pleasant, if a bit silky story, well narrated however an unnecessary amount of fathphobic description from beginning to end

proper story without fillers
i have rated this enjoyable story higher than the majority of my reviews. one star off because with a bit more culpeppelr and his mother, this would have given more weight to the need for revenge AND added a much needed few hours, thus making this more popular as more bang for your buck, i.e. i might have missed a great story if i had not received this free.
