Summary
Penguin presents the audiobook edition of Never Look Back by Lesley Pearse, read by Holli Dempsey.
One good deed takes her into another world . . .
Sixteen-year-old Matilda is a poor Covent Garden flower girl until the day she saves the life of Tabitha, a minister's daughter. Welcomed into Tabitha's family, Matilda is offered the chance of a lifetime.
She leaves behind London's slums and enters the darkest corners of New York. From there she travels across the plains to the Wild West, where San Francisco is in the grip of the gold rush.
Streetwise and strong-willed, Matilda forges a new life for herself and Tabitha among pioneers like Captain James Russell - a man to whom she is deeply attracted. Yet a civil war will soon rip apart this new nation.
Can Matilda and those she loves brave separation and carry on, never looking back?
'With characters it is impossible not to care about . . . this is storytelling at its very best'Daily Mail
'Heart-warming and evocative . . . a real delight to read' Sun

Never look back
Another super read by author Lesley Pearse. Full of historical facts together with engaging characters and with hope and love in dire circumstances. A page turner and a thirst for more of Lesley Pearse’s books. I loved it.

Lesley Pearce At Her Best
I loved every minute of this story and felt I had been on the journey with Matilda. Loved all the characters, it was full of love and heartbreak, but what came through the whole story was Matilda's strong character, her determination to help others and her love for her family and those she helped throughout her life.
Narrator of this book was good as well

Absolutely fabulous story.
A real tear jerker. Following the story of a ragged half starved little Mattie through her amazing life to becoming a wealthy woman.
Never once forgetting her roots. Perfect narration bringing each of the many characters to life.

A heartwarming story of adversity and love.
Definitely more interesting than I had originally imagined. Don't be fooled by that twee book cover. It started to become obvious what would happen to certain characters but didn't detract from the story which was a binge listen, so if you are reading the book you may not put it down. The narrator is excellent, beautiful diction and fluently moved between characters voices and accents which made the story come alive. Definitely recommend.

great book!
A wonderful story . Too many deaths but I still really enjoyed it. Though the author needs to get her historical facts right. She said 6 million men died in the American Civil War but it was approximately 650,000.
