About this listen

A thousand worlds have opened, and the greatest land rush in human history has begun. As wave after wave of colonists leave, the power structures of the old solar system begin to buckle.

Ships are disappearing without a trace. Private armies are being secretly formed. The sole remaining protomolecule sample is stolen. Terrorist attacks previously considered impossible bring the inner planets to their knees.

The sins of the past are returning to exact a terrible price. And as a new human order is struggling to be born in blood and fire, James Holden and the crew of the Rocinante must struggle to survive and get back to the only home they have left.

Stunning next episode

As usual a great plot and wonderful characters. Great to learn more about the back story of our core team and in such an unusual way. Thank you for bringing back Jefferson Mays as the narrator.

Good but not my favourite so far in the series

i liked it alot but found the first half lacking compared to others in the series...but it got going and feel this is more a setting things up for the next book. Well read - I find myself talking with Marina valley accent if I'm careful due to binge listening these books

Fantastic! Get it now, don’t hesitate.

Yet another fabulous audio book, well read, performed and recognisable characters with every inflection of Jefferson’s voice. As for the story; What a ride. This will be my last opportunity to compare backwards from the TV series as season6 is not out yet. When I start the next book, the TV series may lose its lustre a little, but no way I’m gonna wait. Let the Queen of All Churns commence.

Gripping storyline, fantastic book.

Out of all the books in the series this is the best so far, and out of all the books live listened to this one has been the one I couldn't stop listening to. l listened to it all day, then all evening (whilst dealing with the family) I had an ear bud in and then even when I went to bed I managed to sneak a ear bud in just so I could listen a bit longer, the next day in which I got to the end was the same.

I don't want to give any of the story away but I will say I love the characters in this series, they are well written and very likable. The TV series has a tough job of making a season that follows this storyline as well as it's told in the book. it's just a good job they have great actors and actresses playing the parts.

Highly recommended.

A return to full form

Been working my way through this expanse series and loving it. I did feel that the last book was a slight dip in quality. Only slightly, but was worried it might be the beginning of a downward trend. Not worried any more! This book is a full return to form, a real cracker. It must be noted that there is a slight forerunner of the narrative path which Niaomi follows in this book, which is the Gap series by Stephen Donaldson (I do SO heartily recommend that series) but that is only one strand of the many different stories which interweave through this. And the end of the book promises more excitement to come. The voice acting is great as ever. Really do give it a listen!

Superb and thrilling

I have not read any of the other books but have watched all four seasons of The Expanse before realising I could continue following the story through the audiobooks. The narration was very good, very few narrators surpass this by offering a wider variety of voices for the characters but despite the lack of this I found the narration effective at drawing the listener into the story yet without distracting from it at all.
Following the events in book/season four, which I found less captivating than the others, the fifth book offers a thrilling and shocking ride. Old characters are developed further with great depth and we meet some new characters. Humanity faces a great challenge. I cannot wait to listen to book six and learn more about the imaginative ideas of the author on humans, aliens and everything in between.

an uncanny & visceral pleasure

if you've made it here, to #5 Expanse, you are in for a real treat. [yes the TV series is great] but Here, between the writing & narration, is a real, uncanny & visceral storytelling pleasure. & the epilogue - ahhh...

Great sci-fi adventure!

Real page turning action, more depth into favorite characters and epic story progression. Great work from the reader too, like watching the best blockbuster in your head!
