Summary

Home is where the heart is. But home is also the most common site for murder. This grimly fascinating book from the UK's leading criminologist David Wilson uncovers the dangers that exist where we least expect them - perfect for fans of The Dark Side of the Mind and The Mind of a Murderer.

The home is the place where murder most commonly occurs. In England and Wales, each year on average 75 per cent of female murder victims and 39 per cent of murdered men are killed at home.

This gripping new title from the author of My Life with Murderers and A Plot to Kill explores the tragic prevalence of domestic murder and how, for so many victims, their own home is the place they are most in danger.

David Wilson is the UK's leading criminologist and his knowledge of murder is unparalleled. By walking through each part of the house, he explains how each room's purpose has changed over time, the weapons they contain, and ultimately, how these things combine in murder.

Delving into infamous as well as lesser-known true crime cases, this examination of the tragic, ordinary nature of murder is both a chilling listen and a startling insight into the everyday impact of violence and how it can touch us all.

Home is where the murder is…

I have read many of David Wilson's books and found them to be very interesting particularly because they do not dwell on the salacious/gory nature of some of the crimes that he discusses the purely looks at the crimes from the standpoint of whatever the book is that he is discussing. This book goes through a house by room and discusses that then the connections and the psychology of murders take place in the home. The author lays out clearly case studies and using his own expert knowledge and other interviews lays bare the fact that many murders take place in the situation that we feel most safest which is our home.

The narration is excellent and is read by the author. I was really impressed at the level of research and the way that the author was able to connect the research to formulate excellent hypothesis of why murders/murderers conduct their crimes in the home, a very interesting read a book on crime with the difference if you are interested in true crime, but from a more analytical angle. This book is for you.

Very interesting

I bought this after watching David Wilson give an interview on itv. I wouldn't normally go for this subject matter, but it promised a different viewpoint on murder and i wasn't disappointed. David has an easy to listen to voice and far from sensationalising murder, David encourages the listener to think for themselves as he guides us around the house with his selection of murder cases. It's a book i will listen to again.

Very detailed examination of the topic

I always find Professor Wilson to have done very in-depth research into all aspects of a criminal or crime he has researched and this shows. I like how he outlines his thesis on the subject and provides his evidence as to why he believes this to be an accurate reading of the person or situation. This is a very detailed examination of murders at home. The cases are often deeply tragic and moving. I would say the work is much more academic then emotive though. You need to concentrate hard at times as some of the concepts aren’t straight forward. An illuminating listen of a world that the vast majority will only know from accounts such as this.

Tedious

Long-winded in the extreme. Would have been better read by someone other than the author whose slow deliberate exaggerated diction quickly becomes annoying.
