Summary
Gather around for campfire stories with the MeatEater crew as they share 16 harrowing true tales of survival, grit, and misfortune in the great outdoors - an immersive audio experience from the host of the long-running Netflix series and top-ranked wilderness podcast.
In Campfire Stories: Close Calls, Steven Rinella invites seasoned hunters, anglers, adventurers, and outdoor professionals to share their tales of perilous adventures in the natural world, from run-ins with black bears and grizzlies to bad falls and severe hypothermia.
With humor and heart, the storytellers describe how they survived disastrous encounters with weather, wildlife - and even a criminal cartel. Whether set in urban forests or atop remote Alaskan peaks, the tales in Campfire Stories: Close Calls are rich with lessons on how to stay safe in nature, delivered in a conversational tone that conjures the feeling of sitting around a campfire sharing adventure stories with friends.
Campfire Stories: Close Calls features tales from MeatEater crew members Steven Rinella • Janis Putelis • Brody Henderson • Garret Smith • Seth Morris • Maggie Smith and Edbo Genet • with additional stories by Andy Bergin • Buck Bowden • Chad Converse • Jerry Dunlop • Greg Fonts • Jake Grzyb • Sam Lawry • Greg Litzinger • Joe and Joey Nowicki • Alex Reynaud • Thad Robison • Bobbie Scopa • and Avery Shawler.

Enthralling, 1st person accounts
Being the predecessor to a fantastic book. It's everything you think it will be. Really enjoy the actual people these stories happened to tell it in their own words and hear it from thier perspective. Brings so much more to the book.

Fantastic just like the podcasts
As someone who has loved to listen to Steve talk since his first appearance on Joe Rogan I was not suprised that this book is amazing, but was happy to hear the individuals tell their tales themselves, not having them acted out means they aren't always delivered in the perfect manner of a voice actor but that increases the impact of each one as the person remembers the event, you can tell they're reliving it.
The cultural and societal aspects of these stories make them fascinating to me, just like the podcast, these are lives I'll never lead, but I could listen to them all day. Just like the last guide book they released there is a tale in here for everyone, from a simple hike to chasing bass in cartel country Colombia.
Would recommend for fans of the podcast, any level of outdoors person or just people who like a great story.
