One man's life experience against the backdrop of the very rare Wyburn-Mason syndrome

This book is a really captivating read and a very personal account of a life story which is set against the backdrop of a very rare illness.
It's easy to connect with Dan (the author) through his journey. The book catalogs the discovery that the author has the very rare Wyburn-Mason syndrome and the effect this has on his appearance and general health. The book runs the gamut of personal relationships, work, music and other, often very humorous life experiences, whilst, all the while, dealing with effects of this often debilitating illness. Touching, thought-provoking and funny this book kept me engaged throughout its length and I would recommend reading it.

Entertaining and heart warming.

This is a story about a normal guy’s experience growing up, with all the hilarious coming of age details and more. But this particular account is unique, told through the eyes (or eye) of a man who has had to deal with some of the rarest medical diagnoses anyone can imagine. To say he’s an inspiration is understating it - to have such a great sense of humour and humility throughout makes this particular experience a joy to listen to. I laughed out loud many times and as a fellow techno head myself, loved the musical interludes which add even more colour to this unique and fresh story of growing up.
Well worth a listen. Be prepared for some light swearing and gruesome details, all told candidly and hilariously.

5/5 must read

Dan Jefferies narrates his own experiences wonderfully and clearly, with just the perfect balance of detail and humour. It is a very easy to listen to Audiobook which will leave you chuckling at points, emotional at others and I am sure inspired.

He and I both have a brain AVM in common, in differant locations but affecting our sight. I started this Audiobook at a very difficult stage in my condition before starting treatment where I had lost some sight but knew I was at risk of losing considerably more. I was also dealing with depression coming to acceptance of my condition. Listening to Dan Jefferies honest and very open experiences has helped me alot. His mind set of "let me focus on making what may be a disadvantage in one thing, to my advantage to excel in another" was incredibly eye opening to me. He inspired me to think positively about my journey and his humour really lifted my spirits!

Something else worth noting is that this story is not just medically interesting, there are many fascinating storys covering Dan's personal life with his music, growing up and I will leave you to read the rest to find out more!

Whether your interested in rare conditions/experiences or just fancy a nice capturing book to listen to which will keep you interested through out - I highly recommend giving this a listen.

Disappointed

If this book wasn’t for you, who do you think might enjoy it more?

Someone who enjoys off color stories and is not offended by language.

What was most disappointing about Dan Jeffries’s story?

I was expected a inspirational memoir from an individual who succeeded in spite of two rare medical conditions. I did not expect profanity, inappropriate sexual content, and far too many genital stories.

You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Since I received a complimentary copy in exchange for a review, I really wanted to be able to write something positive but alas I did not, could not, finish listening to this book.
