Summary
Panoply is a small, efficient police force, dedicated to maintaining the rule of democracy among the ten thousand disparate city states orbiting the planet Yellowstone.
Ingvar Tench was one of Panoply's most experienced operatives. So why did she walk alone and virtually unarmed into a habitat with a vicious grudge against her organisation?
As his colleagues pick up the pieces, Dreyfus must face his conscience. Four years ago, when an investigation linked to one of his most dangerous adversaries got a little too personal, Dreyfus arranged for Tench to continue the enquiry by proxy.
In using her - even though he had his reasons - did Dreyfus also put her in the line of fire?
And what does Tench's misadventure tell him about an enemy he had hoped was dormant?

Another excellent tail from Alistair Reynolds. Twist and turns as usual. Highly recommended narration was very good story was very good. I have to wait for another book in the Revelation space world.

A fitting conclusion
As the last visit to the RS universe for a while this was a very satisfying conclusion to Dreyfus’ story.

A more than satisfying listen
Being my least favorite of the Prefect series does not negate that these books stand head and shoulders above a lot of their peers.
The third entry in the series does a lot to carry forward the threads of the previous books. Many decisions and threads brought to satisfying conclusion.
If you're reading this review and you've read the first two books, get this one, it's more than worth it. If you haven't then I strongly suggest you add the trilogy to your list and start at the beginning.

A proper ending
It's good that it wound up Dreyfus's story with a satisfactory ending for his character, but overall the story was not in the same league as his earlier Revelation Space books.
I felt the main story ending was contrived and wasn't much of a surprise,
against that I've enjoyed the trilogy.
To give more context to this review, I read book one in print form when it first came out then re-read it once again in print but had the the other two as audiobooks. This is the first time I've ever listened to a complete book only in audio so I don't know if that effected my ratings.
