Summary

From the Hugo Award–winning and New York Times bestselling author of the Expanse, James S. A. Corey, comes the start of a monumental new space opera series.

HOW HUMANITY CAME TO THE PLANET CALLED ANJIIN IS LOST IN THE FOG OF HISTORY, BUT THAT HISTORY IS ABOUT TO END.

The Carryx—part empire, part hive—has waged wars of conquest for centuries, destroying or enslaving species across the galaxy in its conflict with an ancient and deathless enemy.

When they descend on the isolated world of Anjiin, the human population is abased, slaughtered, and put in chains. The best and brightest are abducted, taken to the Carryx world-palace to join prisoners from a thousand other species.

Dafyd Alkhor, assistant to a prestigious scientist, is captured along with his team.

Even he doesn’t suspect that his peculiar insight and skills will be the key to seeing past their captors’ terrifying agenda.

Swept up in a conflict beyond his control and vaster than his imagination, Dafyd is poised to become humanity’s champion—and its betrayer.

This is where his story begins.

“No one builds a universe like James S. A. Corey. The Mercy of Gods is wilder and weirder than you can imagine, and when it ends, all you’ll want is … more.”—John Scalzi, New York Times bestselling author

Very enjoyable sci-fi

Very good start to the new series, was a great fan of the Expanse series. It's the kind if scifi found in books like the Saints of Salvation if that's what you're looking for.

Markedly different to the expanse, but that’s a strength

More surreal and bizarre than the Expanse so was a little bit of an adjustment but once I relaxed my expectations I came to very much appreciate this - felt more like an early Iain M Banks culture novel in all the right ways.

A good if faltering start.

Ultimately I enjoyed this new series. In truth tho I spent at least half of my time morning the passing of Holden and the gang. Once I got past that and the rearranging of my brain cells I got into it. I’ll be buying the next one for sure.

Physically couldn’t stop listening.

Excellent story. Great pacing. Good characters, even when you think they are fools you still want to root for them. I really can’t wait for the next one.

A fantastic new universe to get your teeth into.

Nothing else to say really, I'm hooked. If you liked The Expanse give this a listen.

Binged

The only problem with this is that I binged it in a very short period of time and now I’ll have to wait I don’t know how long for the next part.

I love these guys

will be truthful, not finished it yet but I'm a big chunk through and it's yet another banger. the writing is at its peak here. imagine leviathan falls but somehow better. Jefferson Mayes is still my goto narrator and I wish he did everything. excited to finish this book and putting the review out to hopefully convince others to also get this audio book!!

Slow but intriguing

This is a slow burner but the writing is great it isn’t the expanse and for me that’s good.. it seems to have all the right building blocks for a good series

All set-up

This was fun in the end and promises something big, but it is almost totally set-up so frustrates in that regard, but left me wanting more.
