About this listen

Band Geek vs. Quarterback....

One humiliating photo, a stupid prank, and a hashtag that goes viral. That's how my senior year goes from predictable to absurd in a heartbeat. This year is supposed to be easy. I've finally scored first chair in band, my college applications are done, and all my friends and I have to do is survive one more year of high school before our real lives can begin. Instead, I find myself in trouble with the principal, humiliated in front of the entire school, and fighting with my neighbor - AKA star quarterback, Prince Charming, and nicest guy on the planet.

And that's just on the first day back at school. Trust me, it only gets worse from there. As #GeeksGoneWild trends on social media, my friends and I are the targets of an online witch hunt. But they've picked on the wrong people and retaliation is severe. As the tension escalates, it soon becomes clear that someone needs to step up and put an end to this nonsense. If that means playing nice with the quarterback, I guess that's what I have to do. Now if someone could please tell my heart that this new friendship is just for show. And the kisses...oh, the kisses. Someone please remind me that they don't mean a thing.

Thoroughly enjoyable

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, it is definitely worth listening to. It does approach aspects of cyber bullying and how easily and quickly it can escalate.

Love at First Fight

Love at First Fight is a sweet high school romance between a geek and a jock. Margo is so likable and relatable especially to anyone who wasn't one of the popular kids in high school. Jason is an all around nice guy and the star quarterback. Their story is interesting but it's not without its share of drama. I recommend this story to anyone looking for a nice, clean high school romance. Both Lauren and Michael did a great job bringing this story to life.

Better than I expected

I always appreciate having more than one narrator in books with a dual POV. Lauren Fortgang and Michael David Axtell did a great job.

As far as the story, I'm usually really disappointed with stories that involve bullying. I was really impressed that the characters in Love at First Fight brought up options other than revenge to deal with the bullying situation. Also, from the title, I expected the main characters to be fighting with each other, and I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't the case. Overall, I'm really interested in listening to the next in the series.

Geeks Gone Wild Book One

Geeks Gone Wild Book One.

Margo is just about to enter senior year of high school. On the last day of freedom, she and her friends are hanging out at Suzie's pool. However, Suzie's brother decides to crash their hang out time with a full on high school party. He challenges Suzie to do a keg stand and that spark ignites a hashtag war for the entire senior class. On the first day of school, Suzie and Margo are the stars of the senior class summer photo slideshow. Margo is determined to get back at Joel, as she is certain he is the culprit. Jason, Margo's next-door neighbor and former best friend, is the football captain and his biggest concern is to keep the team out of the trouble their previous seniors got into. After the #GeeksGoneWild hashtag goes viral, Jason just wants it to all go away. The two team up to make the two factions of the school stand down.

If you're looking for a classic high school experience with a slice of mystery, this is the book for you!

Love at first fight

I love the set up of this whole book it was really entertaining especially for being a high school/young adult romance. It was very true to what high school kids deal with on a daily basis. The performance by Lauren Fortgang and Michael David Axtel was very well done and a pleasure to listen to.

Jason and Margo!

Maggie Dallen always comes through for me when I need something fun, flirty and just enjoyable. This high school based story features Jason and Margo. Neighbors forever, and friends when children, these two drift apart as they go their separate paths into high school. Margo the band geek and Jason the football player just do not run in the same circles. But when Margo's integrity is thrown into the ring, things begin to change. Will Jason stand up for her and let her know his attraction? Will Margo give in to her childhood crush? Can their worlds live together? Oh how this hits home. Me being the band geek always had my eyes on those in uniform while playing in marching band. The untouchables. This captured that time, of not fitting in their world, loving from afar but this has an update using social media. I love Dallen's twists and turns in Margo and Jason's relationship, and the entire way life is handled. It's true to life and a great listen.

Lauren Fortgang and Michael David Axtell find that sound that fits these high school characters. There are quite a few with friends and players, and each one was created perfectly, just as I would imagine friends and enemies speaking. Fortgang has a great voice for this age, her young sound captures the innocence of the teens and Axtell has that cocky, yet vulnerable edge for Jason. I enjoyed their dual narration.

A good feel good audiobook

The first in the Geeks Gone Wild Series by Maggie Dallen who I have the pleasure to read other books from her and thoroughly enjoyed so I expected this to be funny and good too. I was not disappointed. This was cute and fluffy with a HEA.
This particular book focuses on Margo and Jason, neighbours who used to be friends but as they grew, their friendship dwindled, they are in the last year of high school Margo is the band geek whereas Jason is the popular quarterback. The unlikely duo comes together when Margo and her friends are being witch-hunted online from school peers.
Both characters are likeable, the storyline is okay but predictable and I feel like I have seen a lot of movies with this kind of storyline, but it works and is a clean YA novel that gives you the feel-good factor.

Great YA

Due to the cover I didn't realize this was a YA novel, not my usual type of read. But I really liked the blurb and decided to give it a try and enjoyed it. The storyline while about popular vs geeks still was different than the usual. I liked the heroine's forward character as well. Maggie Dallen has a real talent for telling a story and I was glad I had the chance to listen to it. I am looking forward to the rest of the series. The narrators complimented each other and were wonderful to listen too.

Best Friends as Kids

Love at First Fight by Maggie Dallen is such a sweet and charming story. I love it when Best Friends as Kids rekindle that special relationship. The characters of Margo and Jason really appealed to me. Lauren Fortgang and Michael David Axtell were great bringing the book to life. Thank you Audiobook Obsession for this recommendation.
