Summary

THE THRILLING KAY SCARPETTA MYSTERY FROM THE #1 GLOBAL BESTSELLER. SCARPETTA IS COMING TO THE SCREEN SOON, STARRING NICOLE KIDMAN AND JAMIE LEE CURTIS

Murder and mayhem. Scarpetta is back, and she's racing against the clock . . .

Chief medical examiner Kay Scarpetta is the reluctant star witness in a sensational murder trial when she receives shocking news. The judge's sister has been found dead. At first glance, it appears to be a home invasion, but then why was nothing stolen, and why is the garden strewn with dead plants and insects?

Although there is no apparent cause of death, Scarpetta recognizes tell-tale signs of the unthinkable, and she knows the worst is yet to come. The forensic pathologist finds herself pitted against a powerful force that returns her to the past, and her time to catch the killer is running out...

First Scarpetta Disappointment

I have enjoyed the Scarpetta series from the beginning and looked forward to the release of every one.
This one though, I felt was flat, cut short - it seemed almost unfinished.
The story lines ended too soon and I was left feeling "that's it?".

Microwave gun?

I have always been a fan of Scarpetta.
All have been so accurate and factual.
But please, microwave guns. Give me a break!

Livid by Patricia Cornwell

A good book but not her best. The storyline was good but the ending was a bit of a letdown. It seemed to end abruptly and there were too many loose ends not tied up. However, the narrator was excellent.

This didn’t disappoint. Classic Kay Scarpetta. Crime meets tomorrows world, As the plot unfolds, threads start to come together until the final reveal.

As I wrote. Gripping!

Thank god they changed the narrator

It has been a long time since I enjoyed the experience of listening to a Scarpetta novel, the previous narrator Ericksen was just so exhausting to listen too and though I suffered through it, it was such a drag! Now LaVoy is a pleasure to listen to, she has got that measured, calm voice I imagine Kay has, and it’s once again possible to distinguish between characters. We are almost back to Lorelai King standard, who read the early books so well!
The story is a bit blah, I’m sad to say. It’s a nice listen as I feel I know the characters so well by now, having had them in my life for 20 years, but the earlier books were better.
Spoiler alert!!
Why did Desi and Janet have to be written out? I liked them with Lucy. It’s about time something good comes her way. I’m still not convinced about Pete and Dorothy, seems wrong, we all know he’s in love with Kay.
Yet I’ll continue to read/listen to Scarpetta, can’t leave them now after two decades!

Great start - poor ending

Really thought we were back to the original style and quality of the originals, sad to say it was a fantastic 3/4ers great read and then just died at the end and left me wondering what all the build up was for. Like someone said you have a chapter to end the book and that’s it.

Setting of the scene, so we understand the characters. The scenario of the story was good and the plot and ending as always good.

whilst this isnt one of the most fast pace, edge of your seat Scarpetta stories, it was gripping.

Great read as expected from a Scarpetta book 👍

I love all Patricia Cornwell books, she's a wonderful writer and Kay Scarpetta is a brilliant lead character. I always wait with much anticipation on each new novel to be released and this latest one did not disappoint, it was a great story and read by a very good narrator.
