Summary

Sarai has lived and breathed nightmares since she was six years old.
She believed she knew every horror, and was beyond surprise.
She was wrong.

In the wake of tragedy, neither Lazlo nor Sarai are who they were before. One a god, the other a ghost, they struggle to grasp the new boundaries of their selves as dark-minded Minya holds them hostage, intent on vengeance against Weep.

Lazlo faces an unthinkable choice - save the woman he loves, or everyone else? - while Sarai feels more helpless than ever. But is she? Sometimes, only the direst need can teach us our own depths, and Sarai, the muse of nightmares, has not yet discovered what she's capable of.

As humans and godspawn reel in the aftermath of the citadel's near fall, a new foe shatters their fragile hopes, and the mysteries of the Mesarthim are resurrected: Where did the gods come from, and why? What was done with the thousands of children born in the citadel nursery? And most important of all, as forgotten doors are opened and new worlds revealed: must heroes always slay monsters, or is it possible to save them instead?

Love and hate, revenge and redemption, destruction and salvation all clash in this gorgeous sequel to the New York Times bestseller, Strange the Dreamer.

Critic reviews

Laini Taylor writes like a musician plays, with precision and passion and harmony, each note perfectly placed, leaving her audience overwhelmed and transported . . . MUSE OF NIGHTMARES is a philosophical fantasy adventure, an epic love story, a daring quest that demands to be read and reread and deserves to be remembered forever. (Katherine Webber)
I was afraid to read too quickly because I didn't want it to be over . . . Laini has done something so special with this duology . . . It will leave you changed forever (Samantha Shannon)

Spellbinding

Wow,I’ve just finished listening to the Muse of Nightmares.I can truly say that I held my breath a lot during this book not knowing where the story was going. It is just such a beautiful, heart wrenching story of love, loss, grief and hope. The language used in this story is like poetry, words truly magically woven together.Ive got to say it has become one of my all time favourites.
The narrator delivers the story so well and brings the story to life.
Definitely recommend both books, they are truly remarkable.

You have spoiled my ears for all other stories!

Stumbled across this and its prequel while hunting for a good listen.

After being enthralled by the Daughter of Smoke and Bone series I made the easy decision to dive right in.

Quite simply Laini Taylor is probably my favourite author after listening to these latest epics.

The narration was also absolutely superb and brings the characters too life in such a way that I believe no one else could have.

A Dream not a Nightmare

As with the 1st book.... I loved it! A muse for imagination, taking you to another world and making you feel like you will never come back.

The writing was beautifully written; the sentences flowed so smooth from one to the next.

The story itselfs.....as quoted from the first book, the author has 'dream up something wild and improbable, something beautiful and full of monsters' and written it into this beautifully strange dream of a book. The plot is fast pace and draws you in. Definitely engaging.

As with the rest of the book the characters are beautiful and very well written. From start to finish you feel and connect with these characters (while slightly finding a favourite). Laughing, crying and breathing with each of them.

I honestly could write an essay on why I would recommend this book and the 1st one too and how awesome it is....but don't worry I wouldnt'.....instead I highly recommend this book and if you are still unsure as to why I think this book is so amazing.....have a read and see for yourself.

fantastic conclusion!

I think I preferred the first book slightly more however, this was an amazing conclusion. it added a new dimension to the story, while developing the one that had already been set up. occasionally I felt some parts were over described, or repeated one too many times, but overalls this is a beautifully described world, with a whole cast of interesting characters. this was clearly a well thought out story and I hope there are more books in this world.

Best story I've heard in ages!

This duology is absolutely phenomenal! It's astonishingly original in concept, and the story is totally unpredictable at every turn. It's also so incredibly beautifully written, full of light and wisdom. I've been told I'm a very harsh critic, and maybe that's why I haven't found a five star book in a couple of years, but finally here it is! Thank you so much Laini Taylor, for filling my mind with wonder again.

Magical!

I really enjoyed this book and was intrigued, but not entirely surprised, to find that it ties in with the last trilogy of Ms Taylor's books I read. Can't wait to see what's next from Laini Taylor.
The audio performance of Steve West was done wonderfully, and with so much emotion, he really made the characters come alive for me.
