Summary

We can't let the wild win.

Despite everything I've done, my kingdom is falling apart. To overturn the murderous sorcerers determined to remake the realm into something wild and cruel, we must rely an unexpected heir to the throne.

But the first fault lines started dividing our country centuries ago. We can't reach toward the past for absolution.

The men I love and the allies we've gathered will have to build a new future. And I'd sacrifice anything to know I've finally set things right... even my hard-won happiness.

It's time to find out whether I'm worthy of staying in this world I've fought so desperately to save.

*Lady of Doom and Devotion is the fourth and final book in a new fantasy romance series full of forbidden magic, impossible love, hot damaged men, and a rebellious heroine who's so much more than she imagines.*

Satisfying Conclusion to the series

I have enjoyed this series overall however similarly to the last book I found the pacing a little sluggish compared to the first two. I did like that Ivy and the guys were reunited quite quickly and there were moments (like the ribbon, the butterflies or Aleks meeting his parents) which hit me harder than I expected however the succession plotline just didn't engage me in the same way the scourge sorcery plotline had in book one and two.

Lothar was a solid villain and I loved his reveal at the end but I really wanted to know more about the godlen however it wasn't really developed much more than in the earlier books. The honeymoon phase also seemed to be over with the romance taking a complete back seat. I appreciate they are saving the world which doesn't leave a lot of time for affection but the love between the characters aided in their development and never felt like token spice in this series, particularly with Ivy and Stavros who had been lone rangers up until that point and are now well and truly part of a family. Instead the characters seemed to be on separate missions for most of this or were lurking in a crowd of people. I still liked what we got though it just made me want more of it. I don't think I will get over Benedict, that one still smarts, but I liked Julita getting some closure.

I'm immediately intrigued by Prince Bastien from the last chapter though. I'm still interested in this world and hope the elusive All-Giver will make an appearance at some point.

The narration across the series is excellent; Ivy has had to restrain her magic for years and that determination and resilience came through in Michelle Sparks performance. Jason Clarke's Stavros was always my favourite but Rheave is a close second; I loved the wonder of this character and he was a great addition to the series.

My interpretation of the star system;
3 stars - I enjoyed it; would read the author again
4 stars - I really liked it; I am invested and definitely want more from this author/series
5 stars - I loved it; I engaged with this book completely until I finished it and it is one I will re-read

Why Choose Fantasy Romance

Lady of Doom and Devotion by Eva Chase is a why choose fantasy romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Michelle Sparks and Jason Clarke. This is the fourth and final book in the Rites of Possession series.

I absolutely love Eva's books! She did an amazing job keeping me hooked through this entire series. I really enjoyed getting Ivy, Stavros, Casimir, Rheave and Aleksi's points of views throughout the book. It really brought the story to life.

Jason and Michelle did an amazing job on the narration. They both really know how to bring a story to life. I look forward to listening to more of their work in the future.

I am so excited for the spin off series The Royal Spares. I can't wait for the first book A Game of Veils to be released on September 10, 2024.

I would recommend this series if you're looking for a fantasy romance, slow burn romance, or why choose romance.
