Summary
On a scorching hot summer day in Elkwood, Alabama, Claire Lambert staggers naked, wounded, and half-blind away from the scene of an atrocity. She is the sole survivor of a nightmare that claimed her friends, and even as she prays for rescue, the killers - a family of cannibalistic lunatics - are closing in.
A soldier suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder returns from Iraq to the news that his brother is among the murdered in Elkwood.
In snowbound Detroit, a waitress trapped in an abusive relationship gets an unexpected visit that will lead to bloodshed and send her back on the road to a past she has spent years trying to outrun.
And Claire, the only survivor of the Elkwood Massacre, haunted by her dead friends, dreams of vengeance... a dream which will be realized as grief and rage turn good people into cold-blooded murderers and force alliances among strangers.
It's time to return to Elkwood.
In the spirit of such iconic horror classics as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Deliverance, Kin begins at the end and studies the possible aftermath for the survivors of such traumas upon their return to the real world - the guilt, the grief, the thirst for revenge - and sets them on an unthinkable journey... back into the heart of darkness.

Kin
I love all the inbred books and thought this one would be right up my street, nope it wasn't the story is over before its begun it starts with a victim escaping but what happened to her and her friends does not get a mention only in snippits and you get confused who is who because the story keeps jumping to different characters and places very hard work,if it had started where the teenagers get captured then I think it would have been more interesting.

Hard work
This book was a hard one to follow. Its a good story but wrote completely wrong. It started off after the event had happened and kept going backwards and forwards from person to person. It was very hard to know where you was and who was who. I thought it was bad writing myself. If Kealan had started from when the kids went into the woods and told the story as it happened instead of bits everywhere it would've been a brilliant story. I was very disappointed especially with the end. It left you thinking what was that all about.

Hillbilly, cannibal horror for the thinking man …
I really enjoyed this book. This is easily one of the top five hillbilly, cannibal horror novels ever written. Usually this type of book is short on storyline and character development with excessive gore but Kin has a rich, detailed storyline and plenty of well developed, interesting characters. It will satisfy readers looking for splatter and gore as well. As usual Chet Williamson does a top notch job with the narration as well. I recommend this book to horror fans who like well written stories. Not for the faint of heart.

A Modern Horror Classic Superbly Narrated
I've recently been checking out books by horror authors I've never read before. Kin by Kealan Patrick Burke was one that got recommended several times to me. I'm so glad it was. It is definitely one of the best modern horror stories I've ever listened to.
The plot is unpredictable and unique and the characters are fully fleshed out and memorable.
Mr Burke is clearly a very talented writer and I'll definitely be reading more of his work.
Chet Williamson's narration is absolutely fantastic. I've listened to many audiobooks narrated by him and they're always engaging. He does a great job differentiating the different characters.
This is a top level horror release from Crossroad Press. Highly recommended!

excellent book
This was a strong 4 star book for me.
There was so much in it i really enjoyed!
This is my first book with a "hillbilly family" point of view included, and i loved it. Would have loved even more of it.
Some great characters and events throughout, though i do think it got a bit bogged down at times.
On the audiobook, i struggled with POV changes - often there was no indication so i was confused a lot about who i was listening to. Sometimes i wondered if i missed small bits that got later mentioned and i couldn't fully recall.
Overall an excellent book, highly recommended!

Fantastic Texas chainsaw massacre style horror
Some of the reviews here nearly put me off this book, saying it was written in the wrong order etc. Ignore these reviews, this is absolutely brilliant. Writing was excellent, story and characters brilliant and narrated perfectly. I’m gutted it’s finished. My first Kealan Patrick Burke book, I’m looking forward to getting stuck into more.
