Summary
I gasp as my body curls toward Brennus like a flower to the sun, for the pleasure of it. He holds me close to him. His nose grazes the length of my neck. He breathes me in. I feel the roar and rush of my heartbeat. I'm his toy; his energy streams into me. He winds the invisible key in my back, and the euphoria ratchets and coils inside of me.
Another wicked surge of energy flows from him into me. Pain. Pleasure. Bliss. My jaw unclenches as my lips part. I make a small, breathy sound as we dance. Brennus responds with something close to a growl. "Ye're killing me, mo chroí," he murmurs. His hand moves down my back, infusing me with a golden glow of power. My wings punch violently from me, tearing a hole in my day dress. They spread wide, like a red stain beyond my pale skin. I'm dancing now for the thrill of it. I follow his lead.

Disappointing ending
I gave 5 stars to each of the other books in the series, but this one does not deserve as many because of its ending. As time was running out, from when there were 1.5 hours left, I started fearing that the ending would not be satisfactory. And so it was. It's not exactly a cliffhanger, but almost. It sounds more like the end of a chapter or of a volume that's surely not the last. So I immediately checked the publication year. And, as I'd feared, it was too many years ago to allow for any hope of a continuation.
So... there it is. For a good ending, I would have forgiven all the rest that was not sitting right with me (such as the fact that everything is amped up, they all get extra powers and protections, everything seemed a bit too much etc.), but... with this ending... nope. I can more easily accept a non-HEA ending or a two-option ending, where the choice is left to the reader, but this is just like no ending at all, it's too abrupt. It doesn't make me regret having read the rest of the series twice, which is why I won't declare it an unforgivable ending. But it's a disappointing one, for sure!
