Summary
'Edel Coffey is like an Irish Jodi Picoult! In Her Place examines "the other woman" conundrum from two different perspectives. It's propulsive, thought-provoking and unputdownable'
MARIAN KEYES
Who is the other woman? That's for you to decide.
Ann devoted years to her mother's care - and now she's gone, Ann feels lost.
Justin is also grieving, but his wife is still alive. Deborah is in a coma and she doesn't have long left.
When the two meet, they are instantly drawn to one another and, before long, they've fallen deeply in love.
Ann quickly moves in with Justin and his little girl, making them the perfect family. But just as Ann settles into her new life, Justin's is turned upside down. Unexpectedly, his wife has survived. Deborah is coming home.
Neither knows what to do. But one thing is certain: Ann has earned the life Deborah left behind, and she plans to keep it . . .
'Non-stop pace, a stellar example of dilemma-noir. Clever, fresh, dark and thought-provoking'

Story unrealistic , Numerous times I wondered if anyone could be so gullible
Liked the feeling of the hopeless of grief and the selfish ness of families created in the opening chapters around her mother and then liked the storyline of the wife being effectively dead so all seemed normal .What did not feel real was the lack of contact with anybody from her life in Brooklyn including her sisters and also the lack of anybody in Hudson making any attempt to be friendly even if only out of noseyness.
The wife’s miraculous recovery was a bit far fetched but amusing but again I thought the set up was unrealistic with Anne staying in the house etc etc .
Again nobody in Hudson ever came to the house ? Where was the couples families and friends , never came to call when the wife was recovering over a 7 /8 month time frame .
Liked the final plot , made me smile even if again a little unrealistic.

Good but not great
I like this book and it had great potential but felt it could have been better. Great storyline but unrealistic in parts.
Where were the friends Justin introduced Anne to at a party to tell Deborah the true nature of Justin & Anne’s relationship?
Why did Anne’s family not see the news report about Deborah’s miraculous recovery?
Why did Sophie not tell Deborah she had been calling Anne “Mommy”?
Justin’s character whilst slightly unlikeable could have been fleshed out more to show his more controlling, manipulative traits.
Still confused as to how Justin died in the end, would have liked a fuller explanation on the exact situation from Deborah’s perspective.
Overall a good read and I would recommend, loved Edel Coffeys last book

Not just a one hit wonder - thankfully.
Any avid crime thriller reader will know that creating a new stance and captivating an audience in this over-subscribed genre is impossible.
Then, along came Coffey. Having devoured Breaking Point, I waited with bated breath for her follow-up. With fingers crossed behind my back, I jumped in head first.
Most of us have met somebody we can't have, mainly because they are in a relationship with somebody else or married. So when you meet a guy who is married but isn't, it gets confusing, right?
Ann had been a good daughter to her dying mother but longed for her chance to become a mother. With her biological clock ticking ever louder, a chance meeting with a guy called Justin changes her life within a few weeks. Falling for him quickly, Ann's life gets turned upside down.
I loved the rollercoaster ride between Ann, Deborah and Justin.
This is one of those books that you never want to end.
Brilliant - I would thoroughly recommend.

Not as good as the reviews (sorry)
It was ok. Narration of the male characters grated on me, they all sounded as if they were very old men. The story laboured on as to what was blindingly obvious to the reader.

A very satisfying ending
Suspend your disbelief a little and this is a very enjoyable listen. It is a little drawn out at times but it made interesting points and it made me think. I loved the ending. I had guessed most of the twists but the ending took me by surprise. Overall a very enjoyable listen.

Boring - this went nowhere
The story went on and on without much happening…..then it ended…. As for a twist… not much of a surprise more an ending rather than a twist.
