Summary

In you are fan of action—adventure movies with the accent on action—then you no doubt love watching Jackie Chan risk his life to create sensational cinema. As one of the biggest stars to burst into U.S. theaters, Jackie has put America's hottest heroes to shame, wowing audiences with the breathless death-defying stunts that are the highlight of such movies as Rumble in the Bronx, Supercop, Operation: Condor, and his newest blockbuster Rush Hour. But who really is the boyishly handsome, lightening-fast Charlie Chaplin of martial arts movie making?

I Am Jackie Chan is the fascinating, harrowing, ultimately triumphant story of his life: How the rebellious son of refugees in tumultuous 1950s Hong Kong became the disciplined disciple of a Chinese Opera Master. How the "paradise" that young Jackie so eagerly embraced proved to be, in reality, a ruthlessly competitive place. How the dying art of Chinese opera led Jackie to the movie business—and how he made the leap from stunt man to superstar. Finally, after years of plunging off skyscrapers and living to tell the tale, Jackie Chan proves with this poignant, witty, and often astonishing memoir that it's always been a tale worth telling.

I woke up being Jackie. His life is incredible.

I enjoyed this book so much I didn't want it to end.
The different phases of his life was laid out so that we can understand the chronological. The mention of the most influential films helps us follow it.
Jackie Chan also proves that every person has a hero on their lives, which inspires them or in this case forced upon on.

I loved this book. can't wait to read his next biography.

Great insight to great actor

Starting his life in extraordinary way and spending his childhood in such a strict and cruel place away from his family. He was taken to live at the Chinese drama school for 10 yrs, it's no wonder he becomes such a commited and talented acrobat/kung foo expert.
Really enjoyed reading/listening to this, even though in parts found it quite sad

Good but a bit short

Tremendous life story but this abbreviated version has a lot missing. Still well worth a listen.

Really disappointing version of brilliant book

I was really looking forward to this audiobook having read Jackie Chans biography numerous times. Unfortunately the narrator continually stumbles over words with many syllables emphasised in the wrong place making it very difficult to listen to without getting distracted. There are also quite a number of sections of the book that have been cut out which unfortunately detracts from the overall story. My suggestion would be that if you want to learn more about Jackie's really interesting life, don't bother with this audiobook - just get a copy of the actual text and read it.
