Summary

Winner of the 2021 McIlvanney Award

Ian Rankin's Choice for Both Best Mystery Book of 2021 (PBS) and Best Books of the Year (New Statesman)

From international best-selling author Craig Russell comes a modern Gothic masterpiece.

Edward Hyde has a strange gift - or a curse - he keeps secret from all but his physician. He experiences two realities, one real, the other a dreamworld state brought on by a neurological condition.

When murders in Victorian Edinburgh echo the ancient Celtic threefold death ritual, Captain Edward Hyde hunts for those responsible. In the process he becomes entangled in a web of Celticist occultism and dark scheming by powerful figures. The answers are there to be found, not just in the real world but in the sinister symbolism of Edward Hyde's otherworld.

He must find the killer or lose his mind.

A dark tale. One that inspires Hyde's friend...Robert Louis Stevenson.

A great read.

Great story, brilliantly read by James Cosmo, there's no better accent to hear the word murder in.

Not as good as other Craig Russell books

Russell embarks on a new project in Hyde and, whilst not as enjoyable as his Lennox or Fabel stories, does conjure up a tale worth listening to.

Jekyll & Hyde deconstruction

Interesting enough story and a different and distant retwist of the classic story. Excellent narration. Just didn’t grab me in the way other books have by this author.

Great listen

Love Craig Russell’s books. Love the way he intertwines history and myths into his stories. Hyde did not disappoint. It had me riveted from start to finish, made even better by James Cosmo the narrator. Can’t wait to listen to his next novel and see what part of history he will weave me through.

Absolutely first class

Another fantastic book by Craig Russell narrated beautifully by James Cosmo. Edward Hyde takes his place alongside Jan Fabel and Lennox 👏👏👏
