Dr Nicole LePera
About this listen
As a clinical psychologist, Dr Nicole LePera often found herself frustrated by the limitations of traditional psychotherapy. Wanting more for her patients—and for herself—she began a journey to develop a united philosophy of mental, physical and spiritual health that equips people with the interdisciplinary tools necessary to heal themselves. After experiencing the life-changing results herself, she began to share what she'd learned with others—and soon The Holistic Psychologist was born.
Now Dr LePera is ready to share her much-requested protocol with the world. In How to Do the Work, she offers both a manifesto for self-healing and an essential guide to creating a more vibrant, authentic and joyful life. Drawing on the latest research from a diversity of scientific fields and healing modalities, Dr LePera helps us recognise how adverse experiences and trauma in childhood live with us, resulting in whole body dysfunction—activating harmful stress responses that keep us stuck engaging in patterns of codependency, emotional immaturity and trauma bonds. Unless addressed, these self-sabotaging behaviours can quickly become cyclical, leaving people feeling unhappy, unfulfilled and unwell.
In How to Do the Work, Dr LePera offers listeners the support and tools that will allow them to break free from destructive behaviours to reclaim and recreate their lives. Nothing short of a paradigm shift, this is a celebration of empowerment that will forever change the way we approach mental health and self-care.

Doesn't deserve poor review
Amazing, modern and relatable. Unbelievably helpful, a game changer. While the voice does sound robotic and hard to listen to I can still appreciate the good content, it doesn't deserve low stars because she is not a narrator.

Just Brilliant
I’ve probably gone through all the self help stuff but the holistic psychologist material is truly excellent. Highly recommend to go explore and to begin to do the work.

How to do the work.
An easy listen. Simply do the work. It's hard to do, but it's worth it and there is plenty of advice on how to do the work in this book.

There is a new narrator!
I got midway through the book before I had to write this review for those who are scrolling through comments undecidedly. So disregard all comments about narration: Courtney Patterson does a great job! The content of the book is very interesting! It resonated and I believe there is huge potential for a better understanding of oneself and lasting change for those who need it. This book is part of the web of literature that centers around how changing habits is key for better mental and physical health. It elaborates on how past experiences (trauma) form habits and behaviour that are detrimental to a good state of mind and physical health. I would recommend to give it a shot.

The most comprehensive self healing book to date.
I've read many self help/self healing books and this is hands down the most comprehensive and best book I've read to date. If you only ever read one self healing book. read this one. 🙏🏻

A must read text...
I heard about the book at a time that was useful for me, when I was trying to figure out stress triggers. It's a really informative text told in an relatable way. Initially when I read reviews people had complained about the original authors reading - however once past the intro Nicole found her flow and it was fine. Yet then it seems to have been rerecorded when I was halfway through - the new narrator is a little upbeat and jaunty fot me given the content but it's fine!
