Summary
In this stunning series debut from New York Times best-selling author Madeline Hunter, a duke's mysterious bequest brings fortune - and passion - to three young women....
Minerva Hepplewhite has learned the hard way how to take care of herself. When an intruder breaks into her home, she doesn't swoon or simper. Instead she wallops the rogue over the head and ties him up - only to realize he is Chase Radnor, the man who nearly got her convicted of her late husband's murder. Now, he's insisting that Minerva has inherited a fortune from his uncle, a wealthy duke. Only one thing could surprise her more: her sudden attraction to this exasperating man....
Chase can't decide whether Minerva is a wronged woman or a femme fatale. Either way, he's intrigued. Since the scandal surrounding her husband's death, she has set up a discreet detective business to rival Chase's own. She may be the perfect person to help him uncover the truth about his uncle's demise. But as proximity gives way to mutual seduction, Chase realizes he craves a much deeper alliance....

Romance with a difference
Enjoyable read familiar romantic basis but engaging story refreshing different. Narration good no appalling attempts at accents.

Liked it
I really liked the performance. I liked her tone and how she let the story roll. I read the reviews about her pronouncing the word inquiries (thats the spelling in the book). I guess it can be a bit annoying to some listeners as the word is used so many times, but for me I liked her way of reading. The story is also interesting and does keep onw wanting to know what actually happened.

Shame about mispronunciation
The author usually gives a good story alas with too many Americanisms.
Alas the narrator speaks second language English. Accent is very important in regency stories, which are set in England.
The word enquiry occurs frequently in this reading, and each time my hackles rose. The reader pronounces the word ‘enquirrie’ whereas the British pronounce the word with the middle syllable spoken as the first person I.
Thus Enq-i-ry.

Narration
Ditto with last reviewer, so annoying that it is Enquiries not Enquerriers. Why doesn't the Author listen to the narrative.

Truly enjoyed listening to Minerva and Chase’s story. A great pace and well written story of three women who become beneficiary of a stranger’s generosity. Will be listening to the other stories in this series. Great narration by Beverly A Crick.
