About this listen
From one of the best-known names in historical romance, New York Times best-selling author Sabrina Jeffries, comes a dazzling new series featuring a talk-of-the-ton trio of young women who’ve eschewed working as governesses to utilize their talents for fashion, food, and music, by running their own party planning enterprise, Elegant Occasions. And if they, and their wealthy clients, happen to find love along the way, it just makes their efforts all the more rewarding....
Self-made civil engineer Geoffrey Brookhouse has unexpectedly inherited the dukedom of Greenwood. But he has a secret that could ruin his family. Hoping to save his timid sister from that fate, he seeks to marry her off to a respectable, protective gentleman. With the London Season imminent, Geoffrey hires Elegant Occasions to orchestrate her debut. Yet Lady Diana Harper, spirited fashion expert, proves more than he bargained for. Suddenly, Geoffrey’s sister is emerging from her shell, and he is beleaguered with social invitations and gossip! Worse, Diana is attempting to transform him into a presentable duke—when all he really wants is to make her his own....
Diana doesn’t know what to make of the handsome, disheveled duke. The man bristles at the very idea that his fashion faux pas might spoil his sister’s chances. Yet Geoffrey’s stubbornness simply inspires Diana to ruffle his feathers—by setting him on a course of self-improvement. Although there’s something endearing, even irresistible about his flaws, can a man who hates the ton tolerate a woman who makes her living catering to them? Little does either know that they have more in common than they suspect—and that two can create a society all their own....

A strong story different from the run of the mill.
I liked the rounded characters and the well thought out story line, exploring the period through the lives of people on the edge of the ton. Amusing, believable characters. Highly recommended.

neither bad nor great
It was a mixed bag for me.
I liked Geoffrey, his mum, Verity & Elisa.
I really, really didn't like Rosie, she's too petulant & she makes her brother sound like a monster to strangers, even though he's a sweetie pie when it comes to her.
I can't say that I was a big fan of Diana either.
She's hypocritical, she both lies to Geoffrey & keeps a really big secret from him, but berates him for keeping secrets from her.
She's incredibly condescending & arrogant at their first meeting & honestly if she wasn't a snob, she never would've dared to speak to any other Duke like that...
She's running a business, yet keeps having a go at him for talking about money... nonsensical!
She's constantly making assumptions & then having a go at him for the assumptions she made even when she's the one who is trying to create a relationship between them out of thin air.
She thinks she knows his sister better than him & his mother after speaking to her for less than 5mns & no more than a handful of words.
Also no mother would ever side with a woman who is inadvertently insulting her for how she raised her son.
She's not horrid, but just too annoying & conceited for my tastes.
