Summary

The leaders of the world’s villainous forces are being picked off one by one, and Dr Nero is forced to take temporary control of G.L.O.V.E. after Diabolus Darkdoom is seriously injured.

Nero discovers that Otto, who has been missing for several months, is leading the attacks, and he is forced to issue a capture or kill order.

When Wing learns of the order, she persuades Raven to join her on a mission to retrieve Otto. But other members of the ruling council, suspicious of Nero’s relationship with the boy, have initiated their own missions to eliminate him. Wing and Raven find themselves in a deadly race against time to track Otto down before the other G.L.O.V.E. assassins....

Not the best Narrator but cracking story

Richard Coyle presents a "new" narrator for the HIVE series, and it must be difficult coming in halfway through a series. We've already had 4 books to get used to how characters sound. Sadly, Mr Coyle isn't nearly as proficient in accents as his predecessor - Scottish is ok, Russian is dodgy but sticks, Spanish sounds like the Speedy Gonzales mouse character and wanders around all over the place. In short, Mr Coyle narrates like some-one's Dad is doing is best at bedtime, rather than a professional voice actor.

Luckily the story is great, so it doesn't really matter that much. I don't want to give anything away, but you really need to have read all of the other books first for this one to make sense. It wraps various stories running through previous books. Raven is still my favorite character and she gets free reign to kick some serious butt.

Epic!!!!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would definitely recommend this book to audible as it is a superb book in bed on a journey and it is is action packed and full of adventure. as long as the friend was aged 10 or above, as there are a few gruesome bits but otherwise this is absolutely a book to read.

Who was your favorite character and why?

My favourite character is raven as she is full of excitement and is really tough and super trained. she does cool things and is one of the most important characters.

Have you listened to any of Richard Coyle’s other performances? How does this one compare?

I am not so keen on richard Coyle but it is mainly the wing voice and the hive mind voice that i really do not like. i listened to dreadnought as well.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

some bits were very funny such as when otto woke up first and asked wing if he was a horse.

Any additional comments?

I love this book, it is funny, exciting, realistic, and absolutely EPIC!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great book but missed a lot of accents

It’s a great book, really good story and well structured. Unfortunately the new narrator seems to have missed a lot of the characterisation and backstory. For example a character described in previous books as having an “upper class English accent” now has a generic American one.
I’m fine with a new narrator but you need to make sure that they know the characters they’re voicing and their backstory in order to get the basics right.
