About this listen

A deadly infection spreads across Europe. The Undead series: a terrifying account of one man desperately struggling to survive this harrowing event day by day. Part one - days one to three.

Howie is at home on a rare Friday night off work when an infection which has rapidly spread across Europe hits his hometown on the South Coast of England. Luck sees him through the first night when many others are taken down and infected, only to rise again as the undead. In surviving, Howie quickly learns and evolves, developing a new set of skills that will save him from disaster.

With a former work colleague, Dave, at his side, he braves the urban squalor of a ruined Portsmouth and begins to understand his desire to remain good in a world rapidly descending into chaos, where only the strongest survive.

Not a brainless Zombie series * * * * *

I found this series of books by happy accident, so glad i did. The author weaves a tale that leaves you holding your breath at times. It will make you laugh a LOT, cry a LOT and run the gauntlet of human emotions. He has created a hero in Mr Howie that you cant help but love, and a team that you would love to be part of, so much so that running around in army vehicle with them and a magnificent dog at the end of the world, would seem like the best adventure ever!

Even if it seems like Zombies aren't your thing, take a chance its so much more than just a zombie series, get swept along on an adventure that honestly never gets boring.

Dan Morgan does an excellent job of bringing Mr Haywood's Howie to life.

Why........why change the narrator? 11 Onwards

I really wanted to write a review but the previous person said everything right down to Dave becoming a moron instead of a cold ex-army man. Trying to be careful so not to spoil anything.
1-10 Are so addictive apart from the odd strange rant that makes you say to yourself “ yes, yes we get the point, get on with it.” I also don’t think these books are the type where you can pick up book 4 and know what is going on so the catch ups are a bit annoying for those of us who are listening to them all.
One last point is that the Extracted books by the same author are amazing and really well written, these books although not looking for them have loads of continuity errors. Here’s just one example but I know your brain will along the way spot the others. From book 11 the Albanian points a gun at a man and makes him undress as he wants his clothes, he tells the man if he talks he will shoot him. The man undresses all the way to his pants, but a few lines later does not know what to do with his hands so puts them in his pockets. Not big I know but there are loads like that, having said that I’d still buy them at least from 1-10 and I’m now struggling through the rest of book 11.

Awesome zombie read

I bought this after listening to the free deleted scene and I have to say I'm booked. Loving the characters especially Dave! The way the guy reads this book is awesome. It's funny, laugh out funny at times, sad, scary and has kept me sat in my car rather than going to work many a morning. I can't wait to listen to the next part

Very enjoyable zombie heaven UK style

I liked it, and will probably listen to the next instalment. It's not lyrical prose, deep and soul searching, or destined for the Booker prize.
What it is, is an enjoyably entertaining and addictive story, simply told, with two likeable protagonists that I couldn't help but root for.
If you like this genre, then it's zombie heaven - A very English alternative to The Walking Dead, and I'd thoroughly recommend it.

Loved it!

This is unexpectedly good. Gripping and funny. It's very violent and the author can't hide his sexist (and childish) view of women, but I'd still recommend it. I'm going straight onto book 2 now.

Walking Dead Meets Shaun of the Dead

Great book, excellent narrator. Would highly recommend if you're a zombie/apocalypse fan. Both gripping and funny.

What an opener

This is a crazy good book. The characters are relatable, the pace is good and it doesn’t get bogged down with unnecessary details.

The narrator is bloody good to boot.

Full marks
