Adds depth to the story

Given that GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS is a visual spectacle, you could be forgiven for thinking that a novelisation would lack the punch and drama of the movie, but you’d be wrong. Greg Keyes does a great job of adding emotional depth and resonance to the movie’s story, which is admittedly light. There are lots of nuggets of information connecting the story to the wider Monsterverse, with scenes on Skull Island and Kong, as well as more details of the other titans we see so sparingly on the screen.

Michael Braun’s reading is solid, giving the action urgency and humanity. It’s not War and Peace, but that’s not what a Godzilla movie - or novel - is for.

Hard to get through

I found it hard to get to the end of this book, how can a story about giant monsters be boring.

A fairly enjoyable book.

Not really an outstanding book but I got this as I missed the movie at the cinema and needed a monster fix..In the end I did enjoy the book but not a classsic and not something I feel compelled to tell anyone about it.

5 Stars for Godzilla fans

If you're not a Godzilla fan you will most likely find this unsatisfying but I liked it.

Although I have it 5 Stars it is hardly inspired in terms of writing but is smooth in its execution. It goes well as an accompaniment to the movie, covering the story in its own right and adding in a little more. As long as you realise what you are getting.

Ok, i admit to being a complete and utter Godzilla geek. I eat, breathe and sleep Godzilla. Have all the movies, comics etc. etc.
So as you may guess, I saw this movie numerous times and got this book to bridge the gap between the movie being dropped from the cinemas to it being released on DVD. Yes, I admit it seems a sad confession. However, this book does offer and extra dimension to the movie as it adds some more backstory to the movie. Shows you what the charactors feel and also some scenes that weren't in the final movie, including some new monsters too.

the best monster book I've ever read

I have been obsessed with godzilla for years, and I only just got the novels, and I really enjoyed them. they gave every person a thorough background, so it was tragic when they got disintegrated, or drowned. the monsters were amazing, some showing benevolence and anger at the same time. ghidorah is the best, no question asked. he is a hundred and fifty meter tall hydra with regenerative capabilities and is basically the bringer of the apocalypse, with a category 6 hurricane that spread to the entire world, causing mass destruction.

I love all of it the parts that they don’t have in the movie the parts they do have in the movie basically everything.

Yeah not bad

This is a novelisation of a movie that requires not much thought or effort to watch and is basically just sci fi silliness. Likewise so is the book.

The attempt to draw out something more deep and meaningful with the writings being read at the beginning of each chapter was unnecessary and I felt spoilt the flow a bit.

Good fun, no brain required.
